There’s a new television show vacating FOX’s Tuesday nights—New Girl. The show follows the battles men and woman must undergo while sharing a living space. Created by Elizabeth Meriwether, New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel and seems to hold much promise as a great new comedy.
Jess, the main character in the comedy has just broken her relationship off with her boyfriend, now she needs a new place to stay, and fast. She finds haven in Craigslist, where she locates a vacant room in a shared apartment complex. During her interview, the three male roommates are stunned to discover that Jess is in fact female; unbeknownst to them before the official interview. In need of another tenant they hesitantly agree to let Jess have the room. This begins the chaotic disputes the group inevitably find themselves stumbling into; along with the creation of stronger friendships that Jess’s awkward personality stealthily pulls out of each character.
For those who find themselves deliberating if the show would meet their expectations, look at who the actors are. “Jess” – played by Zooey Deschanel- has experience in quite a few quality roles adjacent to some of cinema’s most well known comedians. In 500 Days of Summer we observe her acting opposite of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Deschanel also cooperates with Jim Carrey in one of his well known productions the Yes Man. in this cinematic adventure Deschanel does not fade behind the exuberant vibe Carrey protrudes through all his roles; her character is fun loving and unique. Deschanel has grown into an experienced actress, one that connects thoroughly with every one of her characters despite her surroundings.
If quality acting still has not baited the viewers into submission, the writing defiantly will. Elizabeth Meriwether is no novice to the art of writing screenplays. She played her own hand in the creation of the major Hollywoodproduction of No Strings Attached starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. With years of writing scripts for small movie productions under her belt Meriwether has much to contribute to her new project, FOX’s new show New Girl.
