Artist of the Week: Maria Rosas

Every week The Roaring Times selects a student to be the artist of the week. This week we chose senior Maria Rosas. Rosas has shown a lot of hard work and dedication on the piece of art she is working on.

“I enjoy painting and drawing portraits because it allows me to show through art people’s personality and emotions,” said Rosas.

Most people who are in the Pitman art program are inspired by Salvador Dali because he uses a lot of colors and has a lot of creativity shown in his art.

“My dream school is the Academy of Art,” stated Rosas.

“I started drawing to experiment if I could actually do something unique,” exclaimed Rosas.

Here at PitmanHigh School we have some of the greatest art teachers and that’s why we have so many great artists.

On a cold, rainy day in March, Austin Bird was born at Emanuel Hospital. Austin was handed an egg, it suddenly moved and cracked and out came Charles the pterodactyl! Charles was Austin’s best friend from the time they were born. Charles was big, strong, and sophisticated. They did everything together such as ride bikes, play sports, and went to the same great school, Pitman High School. They shared the same awesome teachers, Mrs.Perino and Mr.Moreno. Charles would fly Austin to school every day and bring him home from football practice every evening. Austin was tall, smart, and a great football player. Austin was accepted to Oregon State where he played football along with Charles. Austin was drafted into the NFL, Charles was not, they became more and more separated every day. Austin’s team made it to the Super Bowl undefeated and won. He was named Super Bowl MVP with 14 rushes for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns. He realized he’d forgotten all about Charles and retired from the NFL just to find Charles. He did find him, but he had no idea what to say to him because it had been 2 years since they last talked. Austin walked up to him and said “Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while.” 2 days later they are best friends again.
