Unlike previous seasons, PitmanHigh School’s Track and Field team is strong on every level including boys and girls, JV and Varsity teams. The frosh/soph girls are accustomed to excellence, winning the last 8 CCC championships. The Varsity girls and frosh/soph boys are no strangers to success either, winning the last 5 CCC championships and 4 championships.
The Varsity boys, on the other hand, have not had the same fortune; their last CCC championship was won back in 2009. However, this season is shaping up to be a champion team. So far, the Varsity boys have become champions of the county in the CountyMeet, victors over MercedCounty in the CountyClash, and most recently they triumphed over the rest of the CCC in the first CCC Center Meet.
The frosh/soph girls are continuing their dominance over their CCC rivals with a gap of 110 points in the latest CCC Center Meet.
The frosh/soph boys have a strong team; they took third in the first CCC Center Meet. They were in the hunt for the victory until the last race, the 4×400 relay, which saw Turlock and Atwater beat them and take the first and second overall places respectively.
The Varsity girls are excelling as well; they crushed their opposition by a staggering 99 points. While they are currently dominating the league, they still have room for improvement in the coming years because the team consists of so much young talent. Sophomore running Varsity, Kiana Clay, is the team’s highest point’s earner and still has several years to improve. Clay along with several others represents a bright future for the Varsity girls.
Freshman running Varsity, Madison Todd, expressed the current state of the team and the room for improvement, “We all put in a lot of hard work and that makes us good. The coaches push us hard and that has led to success so far, I am looking forward to the rest of the season and the years to come.”
Pitman’s Track and field team is the largest sports team in the school, and a championship on all levels may prove them to be the most dominate. This is definitely obtainable for the Pride as they look to build on their good start to the season in the coming weeks.
