Experience the battlefield of the greatest tragedy the world has ever known in the 2014 epic war film Fury. Prepare to fight alongside the brave American soldiers as they endure the horrors of the war front in Nazi Germany.
The film was directed by David Ayer (known for the 2012 film End of Watch) and stars Academy Award winner Brad Pitt (Moneyball, World War Z) as Don “Wardaddy” Collier, the sergeant in command of the Sherman tank Fury and its five-man crew. This crew includes Norman Ellison, the young and scared new recruit played by Logan Lerman (Perks of Being a Wallflower). Shia Labeouf (Transformers) as the strongly religious soldier appropriately nicknamed “Bible.” Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Wolf of Wall Street) as Grady, the aggressive antagonistic character of the crew and Michael Pena (End of Watch) as the experienced mechanic and gunner, Gordo.
Fury became #1 in the box office opening weekend with a gross of around $23.5 million, knocking Gone Girl into second place with $17 million. Fury received a critic rating of 79% and an audience rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDB the film received a score of 8.1/10 from viewers and a 64/100 from the critics.
The plot centers this five-man platoon as they fight German forces near the end of World War 2 in 1945. Wardaddy promises to keep his men safe through everything and he manages to do so for nearly four years of the war. They fight battles through Germany until they are faced with a nearly impossible feat; a battle between the Fury crew and 300 German SS soldiers.
I highly recommend this movie. It was very difficult to watch as far as the brutality of the battles and the deaths of the soldiers. I would not recommend it for anyone under 15 years old. I was engaged and on the edge of my seat through every moment of the film. It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. It will make you genuinely hate the world. But you will leave the theater with a new perspective on war. I believe it could be a strong contender for Best Picture at the 2015 Academy Awards. If you only see one movie this year, make it this one.
