On April 2, 2015. Turlock High School’s gym was crowded with the best basketball athletes from towns such as Turlock, Denair, and Ceres. From each of the districts one to four athletes were selected to partake in this game. Students were split randomly into two teams to verse each other. The girls game kicked in full swing, there were many proud parents, teachers, coaches, and friends who filled in the bleachers, within a couple of seconds. Following the girls game was the boys game. Both games had great energy, team work, mouthwatering food, and mind blowing half time shows which were presented by the BackstageAcademy dancers.
As students started to slowly make their way to the gym the girls had some time to warm up and prepare for the game. The bleachers eventually started to fill up. There were posters and cameras at every angle. There were many types of jerseys on the court. Each student wore the jersey that represented their school. Once the audience was seated the game kicked into gear. Both teams had great energy and the excitement of the players could be felt all around the gym. The teams were chosen at random but one could observe that the girls were playing to have a good time rather than worry about the score.
Once the girl’s game was over, more parents started to fill the stands in anticipation for the boys game. Parents were overjoyed to watch their children and brought other family along to enjoy this special day.
Kuljit Bains, a parent of a player stated, “We are so eager to see Devan play, the scores do not matter to me, I am just honored that my son was chosen to participate in this game and share his skills with amazing athletes from other districts.”
The games were amazing to watch and it was great to see all the students be able to enjoy what they were doing as well as get an opportunity to meet new people.
Many students filled the snack bar during the halftime show. The aroma of the nachos lured the parents and children to the snack bar to eat the nachos or simply grab a drink.
Simarjit Kaur, a senior at Pitman High School stated, “I had a great time watching the game but the food had to be one of the best parts of that day.”
The halftime show left many speechless. During the girls game the young dancers from back stage Academy did a wonderful dance that left the audience in shock and in hope for more during the boys halftime show. The little girls had learned a routine with the help of Kristy Garcia for this day. But that wasn’t all; the older girls did just as great. As the boys half time rolled around the audience was eager to see what was in store for them. Once again the performance left them speechless. These dances were a great halftime show.
Stephanie Low. a senior at PitmanHigh School stated, “I was compelled to give a standing ovation because the performances were so well done.
It was a definitely a night to remember.
