It’s no doubt that there are hundreds and hundreds of animals in animal shelters. Most people get depressed going to animal shelters but there are a few shelters that are doing things completely right when it comes to their animals. These shelters care more about how the animals are feeling so that they have the best possible chance to get adopted. To make things easier the shelters will be listed in order of cuteness.

The first shelter is a came up with an idea and made it come true by started the program, Shelters Buddies Reading Program. Since this program started it’s had a very effective impact on the animals at the Humane Society of Missouri.

“Hearing a child reading can really calm those animals,” said Jo Klepacki program director “It is incredible the response we’ve seen in these dogs.”

Children who sign up for this program are between the ages of 6 to 15, the children who sign up for this program are taught to read the animal’s body language and then books are chosen from there on.

The second cutest shelter a cat sanctuary named The Cat House it was founded in 1992 by Lynea Lattanzio. It’s a no cage, no kill, lifetime care, and adoption center. They also have a website cathouseonthekings.com that includes all the avaible pets (cats and dogs) there is also a kittencam, calendars and donations can be made though the website.

This sanctuary is about 12 acres and is located along the Kings River in Parlier, California.

The third shelter that’s making the right choices for their animals is a kitten nursery that partnered with an animal shelter to provide the kittens with 24 hour care. In the San Diego Humane Society the volunteers sign up and care for kittens. Who wouldn’t want this as volunteer work, because then high school would be an even more amazing experience.

The fourth cutest shelter isn’t actually a shelter but they have amazing way to raise money. The San Francisco zoo is now selling the artwork of their animals. At the next fundraising event, Zoofest, there will be over 50 paintings by dozens of animals. A few paintings are however available now for auction on EBay. The fundraiser will take place April 30th at 6pm all proceeds from fundraiser and painting auctions will go to the zoo. Zoofest is a night of dining and dancing, this night will also be celebrating the zoo’s 40th anniversary.

Nationwide every year there’s approximately 7.6 million animals in shelters. The average number of animals that get adopted each year is 4 million. The percentage of dogs in shelters is 25% and the percentage of cats is 70-70% each year. So about 3.6 animals stay in shelters which means that those animals are most likely going to die in the shelters so whatever people can do to help the animals feel better the help is greatly appreciated.
