Passengers about a 120-year journey through space where a man, Jim Preston, in hyper-sleep wakes up 90 years early. Now remember, the passengers are supposed to open there eyes in 120 years to find themselves on a fresh, green, untouched planet where they can begin again. Therefore NO ONE should awake before then which means Jim Preston, portrayed by Chris Pratt, has a huge problem on his hands.

Jim, the passenger who awakes alone on the Avalon, knows he will die alone. But he has the option of waking up anyone he chooses from the 5,000 passengers before they reach their destination.

Just before he is ready to end his life, he sets his eyes on a beautiful sleeping woman named Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence). Jim knows that by waking Aurora, she would suffer the same fate as him. After battling his conscience on whether or not to wake her, he decides to do the deed and accept the consequences because anything is better than being alone.

When Aurora wakes up, the movie is not longer about a depressed, lonely man. It is now about a woman whose life has been taken away by a self-centered boy. Furious and betrayed, Aurora even goes as far to call it murder.

Writer, David Edelstein, said, “Lawrence can still surprise you with the depth of her soulfulness and, in this case, rage. How can anyone jeer a movie with a performance like this?”

Although the storyline seems a bit disconnected the acting and chemistry is right on the money.

“Pratt and Lawrence are wonderful and share decent chemistry, and Sheen adds wit, but, there’s no mistaking the disturbing nature of this movie’s premise. Positioned as a romance and at times offering insight into the nature of relationships, Passengers nonetheless tries to succeed while grounded in a plot that’s frankly off-putting. Are we to see Jim as a harmless romantic, when his love for Aurora is based on expectations he placed on her without truly knowing who she is and his subsequent decisions are pretty much positioned as forgivable in the face of love? The special effects make for a visually stunning movie, and the film’s complicated themes make it a knotty, interesting watch. But the film’s problematic nature does distract from its strengths,” S. Jhoanna Robledo.

Although confusing at times, this romantic, action packed, Sci-Fi film is very interesting and a need to watch if not for the story then for the actors.
