Pitman High School has a total of 3 Senior athletes (as of the end of January) signed to play a college sport this coming fall. Many more are in the recruiting process but are yet to officially commit to a school.

Football player Chris Martinez had a great high school football career, one which resulted in full-ride scholarship offers from various Division 1 schools. Martinez has offers from University of Nevada Reno, Fresno State, University of Hawaii, San Jose State University , San Diego State University, and University of Arizona.

Chris Martinez said, “The recruiting process is very difficult because of how big of a decision it is and what decisions you have to make in the process. Things like saying no to coaches and wondering how secure your scholarship will be in the future. It’s an exciting but overwhelming. It’s a great feeling and I am very grateful and blessed to be put in this position and wouldn’t trade it for anything. ”

Martinez has been in the recruitment stage since the end of his sophomore year and has not officially signed to a specific school.

Softball player Alanah Laupua recently signed to Turlock’s own CSU Stanislaus to fulfill her dream  of playing college softball. Laupua had offers from CSU Stanislaus, University of San Francisco, Sacramento State, Arizona State, University of Nevada Reno and Boise State University. She decided to sign to CSU Stanislaus to play softball and get her education.

Laupua said, “I’ve been in the recruiting process with Stanislaus since the beginning of my sophomore year, The recruiting process overall is stressful because you’re making such a big decision that can affect your life whether it be a good thing or a bad result. But it’s a thing I’m glad I was able to be a part of it and it results in a dream come true.”

Track star Cerah Moren also recently committed to Arizona State University to continue her academic and athletic career.

Moren said, “My recruiting process was a short one. I already had an idea of where I wanted to go to school- I wanted to go to the school that had the coach that would be best for me and help me grow even more in my throwing career. Arizona State had that exact coach. I set up a time for me to go and visit and once my trip was over I immediately knew this is where I wanted to spend my next four years. I called the coach and committed the next day.”

Cerah Moren has been competing in track for almost ten years and because of all the hard work and dedication to the sport, she will be continuing on.

Moren also shared, “I’m excited to grow as an athlete and see what the future has in store for me.”

Pitman High has had over 50 athletes that have moved on to play sports at a collegiate level. Chris Martinez, Alanah Laupua, Cerah Moren proudly represent Pitman High’s athletics, have trained day and night to grab hold of their dreams.

Update: On February 1st, Chris Martinez officially signed to San Diego State on a full-ride sports scholarship.
