CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Tomorrow is Role Pride Spirit Day.  The more spirited you dress the better!  Tomorrow is the last day to vote for Hoopscoming Royalty.  (A Hartley)

 ORDER FLOWERS FOR YOUR VALENTINE – Valentine’s Flower Order forms are available in the Activities office and outside D105.  Orders must be placed by Friday February 10.  Order early don’t miss out.  (K Vannest)

 Attention Seniors: Grad Nite 2012 will be at SixFlagsMagicMountainon May 17-18th. The total cost is $155, which includes: transportation to and from Pitman High School, Admission to Six Flags Magic Mountain and an All you can eat Buffet Meal inside the park. A Non-refundable $50 CASH Deposit is required no later than February 10th and the balance is due no later than Friday, May 13th. All payments must be in CASH OR MONEY ORDER. A completed parent permission form must be turned in with the final CASH/Money Order payment. Permission Slips and Fliers are available in the Activities office. Fundraising Snack Boxes are available to check out in the Activities office.  (Activities)

COUNSELING

Seniors:  The Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship is now available, and awards range from $200-$1500.  To be eligible, you must have at least a 2.5 GPA and complete the required forms.  Applications are available in the counseling office, and the deadline to apply is March 30th.  (J Powers) 

 ASVAB Career Exploration Program: Students interested in joining the Military or exploring college majors and career opportunities should sign up for the ASVAB TEST. This is a free test given to Pitman juniors and seniors. Space is limited so sign up in the counseling office today. See Mr. Sanchez in the counseling office for more details.

 Seniors:  Are you planning a career in the automotive field?  If so, you are invited to apply for the H. Emory Bonander Career Education Scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling office, and the deadline to apply is March 1st.  This $500 scholarship is a great opportunity, so don’t miss out!  (J Powers)

 Students:  The City of Oaklandis hosting the Black College Expo on Saturday, February 18th from 9 am to 5 pm.   There will be free seminars and workshops and the opportunity to meet with reps from Historically Black Colleges.  Seniors:  Are you planning to pursue education in the healthcare field or a medically-related profession?  If so, you are invited to apply for the Emanuel Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary scholarships.  Up to 10 scholarships of $750 are available.  Applications are available in the counseling office, and the deadline to apply is March 20, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  If you are of Portuguese descent with at least a 3.5 GPA, you are eligible to apply for the Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California scholarships.  Applications are available in the counseling office, and the deadline to apply is March 15, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  The Central Valley Foreign Language Association is offering $500-$1000 scholarships to six outstanding seniors studying foreign languages.  You must have at least a 3.0 GPA and have studied a foreign language for a minimum of three years.  For more information, see Mr. Grishaw in B204.  Applications are available in the counseling office and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  If you are planning to major in an Agriculture-related field in college, you are encouraged to apply for the Modesto Garden Club’s scholarship!  There are six scholarships of $1,500 each.  Applications are available in the counseling office or by emailing gardenscholarship@gmail.com.  Deadline to apply is April 4, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Marines: Juniors and Seniors interested in learning more about the NROTC (up to $180,000 towards college fees) Scholarship, learning more about Military Career Opportunities, and learning more about United States Marine Corp can sign up for USMC Presentation in the counseling office.  Seniors:  Have you ever participated in a conservation or environmental project?  If so, you are encouraged to apply for the Audubon Scholarship and Sierra Club Scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling office.  Deadline to apply is March 31, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  Are you currently taking an Ag class and planning to major in Agriculture at a junior college or university next year?  If so, you are encouraged to apply for the Turlock Chamber of Commerce Ag Scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling office, and the deadline to apply is February 24, 2012.  This is a great opportunity, so don’t miss out!  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  If you are an instrumentalist currently participating in Pitman’s school music program and are planning to major or minor in music in college, you are encouraged to apply for the Modesto Symphony Guild’s Music Scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling office.  Deadline to apply is March 15, 2012.  (J Powers)

 Seniors:  The Knights of Columbus, Father Heslin Council #2557 is awarding scholarships to seniors who attend Denair, Hilmar, Pitman andTurlockhigh schools. Applications are available in the counseling office.  Deadline to apply is March 12, 2012.  (J Powers)

 CSU Stanislaus will be conducting a ‘Cash for College Workshop’ TONIGHT at 6pm. This workshop will provide general financial aid information, as well as assistance filling out the FAFSA, for all colleges not just the CSU System. There will be a $1000 scholarship available for one student who attends the workshop. Please see your counselor if you have any questions.  (D Bailey)

 Seniors:  If you are planning to major in Agriculture in college, you are encouraged to apply for the Blue Diamond Growers Scholarship.  You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to apply.  Interested students can pick up an application in the counseling office, and deadline to apply is March 31, 2012.  (J Powers)

 The CSU Stanislaus STARS Online™ (Scholarship Tracking and Review System) scholarship application is now open for the 2012-2013 academic year. Based on the information students provide on their completed application, they will see a list of ‘Recommended Scholarships’ for which they may qualify. For more information, please see your counselor.  (D Bailey)

 Attention seniors: Are you of Italian descent? Are you planning on attending college next year?  If so, you may qualify for The Sons of Italy Western Foundation Scholarship Programs.  Go to www.sonsofitalyca.org for qualifications and to apply.  Applications also available in the Counseling Office.  Deadline to apply is March 1, 2012.  (Counseling)

CLUBS

Asian Club – meeting today in B116. Be there by 11:15. We will be taking the club photo for the yearbook. We will also discuss future events.  (D Jack)

 The Creative Writing Club and Literary Society will be having a meeting today at lunch in B122.  Please arrive promptly.  (JClark)

 

The Pitman Paintball club will be meeting in H116 today during lunch. If you want to attend the event on February 11, you must attend today’s meeting.  (S Montgomery)

 

Art Club meeting at lunch in E128 on Tuesday, 2/7.  All members are expected to attend.  (T Crivelli)

 

Mandatory Game Club Meeting during lunch today in room B121.  We will be nominating officers, taking our yearbook photo, planning for the rest of the year and talking about movie night.  (M Hatchell)

SPORTS

Girls soccer…tryouts begin Monday February 6th.  You need a physical to tryout.  Girls soccer There will be after school conditioning tomorrow Wednesday from 3-415.  (O Mercado)

 

All athletes interested in participating in Spring sports (Baseball, Swimming, Track, Diving, Softball, Girls Soccer, Boys Golf, and Tennis), need to have a current sports physical on file with the athletic trainer by Friday, February 3rd, 2012.  If you are currently playing a sport or have already turned your physical paperwork in, you are fine and cleared to go.  But for those who haven’t, please swing by the Athletic Training Centre to get the necessary paperwork for your physical exam.  Again, the deadline is 02/03/12, and any physicals received after this date will be late and those individuals will miss the 1st day of try-outs, beginning 02/06/12.  If there are questions regarding any of this information, please see our awesome Athletic Trainer, Markus.  (M Turner)
