Motivation, by definition, is “the psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and direction to behavior.” In my opinion, motivation is what inspires us to thrive on to victory and success or to win, never give up, and stride toward a common goal. At one time or another, everyone has a sense of motivation.
In the 2008 Harvest Bowl, there were many arguments over who would win. In a way, that is a big factor of motivation for the players on the field to hear that their fans are cheering for them. So does that mean arguments to get the players motivated is a good thing? However, imagine if there would be no fans to argue. The big Turlock vs. Pitman game would probably have no cheering, no excitement, and no motivation.
In sports, to get “pumped up”, many do pre-game rituals to get motivated and loud to try to succeed their goal. But does that really play a factor, or is it just a belief thing? Many agree that yelling and going crazy before a game does make a difference if you win or not, but aren’t we playing the same exact game we were before?
Motivation occurs in the everyday school life as well as sports. For example, would you rather take a regular old test that you already know the answers to, or take a test that allows you to enter a raffle for a chance to win $1000.00? Anybody I know would probably choose the test that comes with the raffle. In the office, what would motivate you to set a good, first impression on your boss? Obviously to get the job you want, you must impress him.
Motivation is everywhere and only you can find it. Motivation is what you make it. Whether you find something that motivates you to sharpen a pencil or you find something that motivates you to have an interview with a worldwide corporate law firm, just know that you will go far because having motivation will keep you looking forward to something. Always strive to do your best, be as successful as you can be, and find something to motivate you to keep you going for the rest of your life.
