It’s true; sometimes you get to know someone by asking them personal questions. But what truly catches your attention is their reason behind their answer. It might as well be a teacher asking you why you chose the answer “B” on your exam. I’ve always come to believe that everything one day makes you who you truly are. Your personality is that makes you… you. Quite simply put, personalities have been profiled to match the four elements.
The four elements represent how most people look at life and their personality. It might be a way to express oneself, or a way to value life because that particular element exists in the world. It is a unique way of expressing oneself to your society. If you have an inner anger about something, you might like fire. Even though it would be logical for you to like fire, some might like wind because it provides a certain amount of release for them. Each person is unique and sometimes one, even thought they think they know themselves to a point, gets surprised over their own answer.
I wondered not too long ago why I liked wind over earth, fire. The response I gave to my own question was that I love the feeling that I can feel a lot of stuff and emotions, when I can not see them. It’s an inner feeling that fulfills me in an indescribable way.
Asking someone what they prefer out of earth, water, fire and wind, might look like a simple question at first. If you think hard about the question you’re being asked, you realize you like two of them or even all four. I asked my friend Kristyn Aredas, a senior at Pitman, what she liked. At first she said fire right away. She told me she didn’t know why, but she loved how fire looked and felt. After I told her her that I liked the wind the best, she rethought her response with a quixotically absent look. She liked the reason I had behind my answer and said “I like that because wind is like free flowing, Hmm, I like that.” Since then she fully thinks about the motive that made her give the answer that she gave. I’m pretty sure she likes fire and wind now.
I had also asked one of my other good friends, Daniel Washington, a junior, the same question. His answer was that he liked fire because it controlled water and earth already. I liked that answer and that makes it unique but there will be other people that may like fire and give the same explanation.
I truly believe every person is unique in a way and that makes their answer to anything be different also. If I’m being asked a question, I think a lot before I reply. If a friend makes me play the “Truth game,” I become really honest and it is probably the best way to get to know me. Some people are too self-preserved to allow other people to become too close to them. Try it yourself, and ask your friends what they like: earth, water, wind, or fire and think about their answer.
