Six students from Pitman won awards in the Turlock Regional High School Art Show. The winners were: Amelia O’Neil for a 1st place painting, Carman Valdez for a 2nd place color drawing, Brenda Penner for a 3rd place color drawing, Joe Renden for 3rd place digital arts, Hayley Marles for 1st place photography, and Rubelpreet Dhaliwal for 3rd place photography.
In an interview with the first place winner in painting, Amelia O’Neill, she answered a question about advice for people who want to become artists. She responded, “Believe in yourself! As cliché as it sounds, that is the best advice. Don’t let anything stop you. Try out crazy ideas- it doesn’t matter what other people think. Be adventurous with your creativity. Never stop drawing.” I find her advice very helpful because it is good advice for anyone in any vocation.
In the another interview with the first place winner photography, Hayley Marles responded to the same question, “Bring a camera or sketch pad with you everywhere. Whatever reaches out and grabs you- just capture it. Be patient: just let those moments come to you.” I agree with her because you never know if you’re going to find a perfect scene to take a shot. You can only be prepared to take pictures if you have a camera handy, or a sketch pad if you’re a sketch artist or painter.
These winners really worked hard on their artistic masterpieces and I could tell that they really believe in themselves.
