I recently went to see the cinematic adventure, Shorts. This movie is rated PG, so it’s admitted to anyone.
The movie title, “Shorts” means a series of short scenes that are shuffled around. This is one of the effects the movie has. It is very confusing, but as the movie goes on, everything starts to come together. The plot of the story is a little out of the ordinary. A boy and his group of outsider friends find a special rainbow colored wishing rock. The reason the rock is so colorful is because it came down through a lightning storm and it landed at the base of the rainbow giving it its wish granting power.
Eventually, everyone starts to use the rock for their own needs. Along the way in the story, there is a bully female. Her name is Helvetica, and she is the most memorable character for many reasons. One reason is that every time she walks on the screen, every character grows quiet with fear and the background music has opera singers chanting, “Hel-Vetica, Hel- Vetica.”
Under the circumstances, the characters become closer with their family when they make wishes. For example, when a combating couple finds the rock, the woman wishes the couple would be together forever. Then the rock’s power makes them Siamese twins. At first they start worrying about how this will affect their work life, but then they start feeling that special love spark again. Even when after the rock’s power separates them they still have the same feelings they did when they were conjoined.
Towards the end of the film, all the short scenes combine in order and you start to see how one scene leads to the other. Then at the end of the story, everything the characters wished for turns back to normal because the rock felt as though its powers were being abused. All in all, this is a great story whether you’re as young as two or as old as ninety. At first I thought this movie was going to be just another stupid kid’s movie, but I got some laughs out of it and ended up enjoying myself. I’m sure if you saw the movie, you’d feel the same way.
