We all know that Taco Bell is famous for their promotions of special menu items that seem to appear overnight. One of these is the red themed, lava menu and their newest item on the menu, the Black Jack taco. The black taco itself easily stands out amongst its fellow tacos with its unique, black, crunchy shell and it’s somewhat different pepper jack sauce. The taco seems like a good idea to bring in sales to Taco Bell and to add some variety to their menu, but in reality is just another promo that stands out in looks, but leaves the eater not asking for more.
When I got the taco, it appeared tasty with its good amount of beef, a pile of lettuce and cheese, and what appeared to be a perfect amount of Pepper Jack sauce, just like any other of Taco Bell’s. I first bit into the taco expecting a cheesy and spicy twist on one of my favorites.
What I got was the overwhelming taste of cheese and sour cream that plagued the entire taco. The pepper jack sauce was way too sweet and had barely a fleeting reminiscent taste of spice. It definitely wasn’t what I expected pepper jack taco sauce to have tasted like. It sort of tasted like sour cream mixed with bell pepper. I thought that I may have bit a spot where the sauce was less concentrated, so I took another bite. The sauce filled my entire mouth and I was disgusted. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the taco.
Overall, this new taco failed to live up to my expectations in more than one way. Its taste is passable and unoriginal, and won’t satisfy the consumer’s taste as much as the regular crunchy taco. The black shell appears to just be an advertising ploy to get people to try out their pepper jack sauce on a taco or a promotion for Halloween. Either way, this taco is definitely one to pass on when choosing a tasty meal from Taco Bell.
