I instantly fell in love with Never Shout Never’s Christofer Drew last year when I heard his song Trouble. I soon found myself playing it repeatedly. I thought his ukulele and acoustic vibes were cool and unique from what I normally listened to. Christopher Drew’s band has grown quickly in the past three years, beginning from recording in his basement to having Butch Vig (a major producer) produce his latest albums, Harmony and Melody.
Since the release of the last album, What is Love? I had high expectations for the new album, Harmony. I would have been surprised if it topped What is Love? But I knew that no matter what, I would instantly fall in love with it like I have done with the other albums. Once I had finished downloading Harmony on iTunes I was so ecstatic that I couldn’t wait to hear all of the new songs. Plus, to make things even better, he had released a series of new music videos for a few of the new songs on the album.
Number one on the track list is Harmony, and I would have to say that the lyrics in Harmony really do describe Christofer Drew’s way of thinking. He tries to spread his theme of how much better life would be without war and hate. This is not my favorite song but is definitely at the top of my list.
CheaterCheaterBestFriendEater has a catchy tune that I tend to find myself singing. I find it just like other songs by Christofer as it is about a girl cheating on him and his heart being broken again. However, I wouldn’t call it one of my favorites.
Lovesick, number four on the album; First Dance; number seven, are songs that most fans have heard before on YouTube. If you’ve watched the YouTube version of Lovesick and First Dance you’re going to be surprised by the new vibe that comes with the Harmony version. Lyric wise it is the same but instrumentally changed, which is not a bad change fortunately. In Lovesick he plays the piano which, in my opinion, was a good change from the original version.
My two all time favorite songs to dance around to in my house are Piggy Bank and This S**t Getz Old. These two songs make me want to dance around and sing along with them. If I could rate them on a scale of one through ten it would be a fifteen without a doubt. They turn frowns upside down and can make most people in terrible moods, cheerful with bright smiles.
I Love You More Than You Will Ever Know can be a mouthful to say, but is one of the cutest songs I have ever heard. It is songs like these that make most of Never Shout Never’s fans fall in love with them. It talks about how no matter how far apart the two people may be they are still in love and even though “I’ve been to heaven I’ve been to hell” he still loves her.
A mellow decent song, Lousy Truth, is what I will listen to when I’m in a chill mood. Drew talks about a past break up that didn’t end too well but he wonders what it would be like if they stayed together and if he wasn’t always gone on tour.
Trampoline shows what an amazing guy Drew is. A girl was hurt and still heartbroken from her past relationship but Christofer says that if she just takes his hand he will never hurt her like the other guy and he’ll love her until the end as long as she trusts him.
Near the end on the list is Sweet Perfection, which tells about a girl Drew met and had an amazing time with. It is about going on a walk and talking about everything in life – the good and bad. He has been looking for a heart that’s so complete and so satisfied with the little things and he found it in this lucky girl.
Sellout is one of those deep song, where one can tell the musician put a lot of thought and meaning into. Sellout talks about how the “corporation” tries changing him and his way of music, but he won’t let that happen again. The song discusses how bands have changed their style just so their music would sell are sellouts and should be ashamed of themselves.
Harmony is a terrific album that you should go and buy. If you enjoyed the album just as much as I did then you should attend his concert next month on the Harmony Tour so you can sing along to all your favorite songs and get to know Christofer and his friends.
