Rickey Gervais hosted the highly anticipated 2011 Golden Globes. He received the honor to introduce the motion picture “The Social Network” which won 4 awards at the Golden Globes including best motion picture. The director of ‘The Social Network”, David Fincher, was awarded the Best Director award. The screenplay writer for the movie, Aaron Sorkin, won the Golden Globe for the best screenplay for a motion picture. The final award won by the highly respected movie was Best Original Score and was awarded to the music composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The recipient for the best Actor in a Motion Picture was Colin Firth for his performance in “The Kings Speech”. I imagined that the best Comedy/Musical award would be won by Alice in Wonderland. However, “The Kids Are All Right” was the recipient of the award. The winner of the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Golden Globe was Natalie Portman for her work in Black Swan.
When the host announced the hit T.V. comedy / musical show “Glee”, as one of the nominees for best TV Show, I said to myself, “ I saw the announcements for this show on TV everyday, there is no doubt that it will win since it is the most watched show on TV”. “Glee” ended up winning the Best TV Show Golden Globe to no one’s surprise.
Paul Giamatti received his second Golden Globe when he won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy. He won his first Golden Globe in 2009, for Best Performance in a Miniseries after staring in “John Adams”. The winner of Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture was Melissa Leo for her character in “The Fighter”.
My favorite TV series was a toss up between the “Big Bang Theory” and “Two and Half Men”. So when Jim Parsons won Best Actor in a Television series I was glad for him. The winner of Best Actress in a Television Series was won by Laura Linney in ‘The Big C”. The award winner of Best Foreign Film was interesting to me. I had no idea about any of the films nominated for the award. The winner was “In a Better World.” The winner for best animated film was Toy Story 3, which wasn’t a shock to me but I thought “Despicable Me” would win. Whenever I heard that someone that was connected to “Glee” was nominated for an award I fully believed that they would win due to all the hype that surrounded the show and I was proved to be correct. In my opinion the winner for Best Actor in a Television Show was Chris Colfer for his performance in “Glee”. I favor the show “Sons of Anarchy”, so when Katy Sagal won Best actress in a television series I wasn’t surprised. The final award went to Christian Bale from “The Fighter”, for Best Supporting Actor.
The Golden Globes did not disappoint and neither did Ricky Gervais. All the awards were fairly awarded with out much controversy. It was once again a classy award show as it is known for.
