Obsession is defined as “the domination of one’s thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc”. And it is possible to be obsessed with various items and for me that one crazy obsession, I’ll confess, as well as one of my weaknesses would be Jay Sean’s voice. In fact, while I’m beginning to write this, I’m listening to his songs right now, particularly my favorite “War”. I admit to having abused the “Replay” button along the way, but I guess I just can’t help it.
I mean come on, why shouldn’t I or how can I NOT be obsessed with his voice? The voice is not all that seduces you or is literally like “WOW”, but even the lyrics themselves completely sweep you off your feet. For instance, the lyrics to “Love like This”, also known as “Eternity”: “…I will love you eternally/ for eternity/ They’ll never break us down/ I will love you eternally/ for eternity/ and I’ll always be around…” are the words which I’m sure any girl would be truly touched to hear. Love Like This (Eternity) was only an example, but pretty much all of Jay Sean’s words from his songs are usually so genuine and reassuring that when put together with a beautiful rhythmic background beat , they all contribute to an absolutely astounding song which, for me at least, can be heard infinite times continuously.
One could possibly argue that I am a sincere fan of Jay Sean because he is also a Sikh and Punjabi just like me. Well, not entirely… Although this fact has definitely played a factor in my infatuation with him or more likely me primarily beginning to actually listen to his songs after one of his biggest hits in 2009, “Down”. You see, normally I don’t listen to English songs, not because I think they’re bad, they certainly are nice but I don’t know why I just don’t. Nor do I listen to the radio; instead I listen to Bollywood songs. Although, my second favorite English singer would be Bruno Mars definitely for his hit “Just the Way You Are”.
Anyhow, taking all that into consideration, it came as a shocker to me when I realized how much I had begun to replay so many of Jay’s songs including the hits as well as those songs that the majority of people that I talk to shockingly don’t even know about. I have so many favorites that I won’t even start to list them but one which I find a bit more special is “I Won’t Tell” not only since it’s catchy but also because Jay refers to Gemini women, and Gemini is my zodiac sign, so I just love listening to it! It goes “… She plays like a good girl/ But I don’t believe her/ Girl what’s your sign/ You must be a Gemini/ A sweet girl with a bite…”
I still am not sure if it’s only his voice that keeps me from pressing the “stop” button, let alone turning it off when I’ve got time. Even when I’m not listening to him, I still have his songs stuck in my head as I go around singing to myself. Am I the only one almost fanatically obsessed with Jay Sean’s voice, or is there someone else?
