Meet Jane Quimby- a high school misfit turned into high fashion intern. Jane is a simple girl with huge dreams of belonging in the massive world of fashion. As difficult it is to be in the fashion industry, Jane seems to be flowing in perfectly until she faces her reality at home of being an unpopular high school student who worries about economic problems. Left by her mother as an adolescent and having her loving father pass away Jane is left with her older brother, Ben. Jane’s brother, who used to be the typical-popular high school jock, is now currently unemployed and is his teenage sister’s legal guardian. Ben faces a huge responsibility and it’s difficult for him to raise his younger sister without a job and bills to pay, which stacks up into a pile of debt. This does not only affect Ben, but also Jane. Knowing that her brother is struggling, she decides to help him out by secretly applying for an internship at a very prestige fashion company called Donovan Decker to work as an executive assistant for a fashion designer/guru, Gray Chandler Murray actress, Andie MacDowell. The fashion guru is impressed with the young fashionista’s skills and knowledge that she decides to hire Jane with the job which pays a significant amount for a teenager. “Starting salary is 32,000,” Jane amazed by her boss’s offer asks, “What? Dollars?” Murray’s last remark is, “No… cupcakes. Yes dollars!”
This show is great for older teenagers mainly because it deals with typical high school drama, how difficult life can be sometimes (especially in an economic crisis), the importance of family, and most importantly -fashion! Jane is a character who is relatable in many ways to young teenage girls. She’s a risk taker- especially in fashion. She makes clothes and accessories herself and she loves fashion and exploring it. As I’d like to call her, she’s a fashion-born talent! She doesn’t fit in well at her high school because she’s what you call “her self”; she doesn’t hang out at the cool table, play sports, or join clubs, even though she wishes she could fit in sometimes. It’s a characteristic that I personally like about this individual, because not everyone in high school participates in activities and are popular, there are others like Jane who have talents for something else-in her case it’s fashion. Jane is also a comprehending sister that despite the fact that her parents are no longer with her she’s still thankful that she has a brother to look up to and loves very much. Life is about having challenges and it’s not about how hard you fall, it’s whether you can get up and keep trying. That is what Jane does to help not only herself, but also her brother.
If Jane can make it in the fashion industry she can make it basically anywhere in life. The fashion industry is not just fun and games; you need to be well- prepared knowing well known designers, beginning designers, fabric, models, how to style, promptness, etc. Jane still has a lot to learn in the fashion world, but the question is can she keep up with her double lifestyle? The question is yet to be answered but what you should anticipate in this new series is traveling, fashion, romance, and more!
