Almost exactly a year after its predecessor was released, the iPhone 6 hit the stands of stores worldwide on September 19, 2014. With a new interior and exterior design and a variety of new features, this new Apple product has proved to be worth checking out.
There’s no doubt that iPhones have increased in size over the years. With the first being 2.4 inches to the iPhone 6 at 4.7 inches, Apple has continued to live up to the motto, “bigger is better,” a saying in which so many people believe. The iPhone 6 also has rounded corners instead of squared and is ultra thin compared to previous models.
With social media apps like Instagram and Vine, it is important to many people that their phone has an exceptional camera. According to freshman, Sophia Guerino, one of the things that classify a phone as “good” is its camera. The new iPhone offers just that, and more.
Sensor upgrades, improved tone mapping, and the new “Focus Pixel” technology are just a few of the many camera improvements available on the iPhone 6. The front-facing camera was upgraded as well, which is good news for people who enjoy Face Timing and taking selfies. The iPhone also has an enhanced slo-motion camera and time-lapse video.
The fastest and most efficient model yet, this new product has technology like an A8 chip-processor and 64-bit architecture. The A8 chip is 750 times faster than the original iPhone – a major advance in Apple’s technology history. The iPhone 6 continues to impress buyers with a M8 motion co-processor that measures activity with advanced sensors like a built in barometer.
One new, advanced feature that is available on the iPhone 6 is “Apple Pay.” With this, you are essentially allowed to make contactless payments. Though this new feature isn’t exactly “new,” now that Apple has included it into their products the idea has started to take off, especially since they have already made partnerships with Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.
As if releasing two new phones consecutively wasn’t enough, Apple also came out with its biggest iOS release ever – the iOS 8. With this, you are able to use its many new functions and features such as having Siri identify a song just by listening to it and using health and fitness apps to communicate with your doctor.
When using the new iOS release, you will discover the new built in apps provided by Apple. These include apps like, “Tips,” which gives you instructions and tricks on how to use certain features in the iPhone. Another is “Health,” an app that is available for your fitness needs such as calculating body measurements and tracking your sleep intake.
As with most high end products today, the iPhone 6 isn’t cheap. Prices for the new Apple product range from $199 for 16 GB to $399 for 128 GB. Though people have expressed their complaints about the high prices, you are no doubt getting your money’s worth.
In the first weekend the phones were available, Apple was able to sell a record 10 million devices of both the iPhone 6 and its bigger twin, the iPhone 6 Plus.
Walter Piecyk, managing director at BTIG Research, declared in reference to the large consumer demand for the iPhones, “The first-weekend iPhone sales number continues to be more about how much Apple can supply than what is in the market.”
Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, says just as much in a statement made on September 22. “We could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply, and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible,” he explained.
Reports show that come the holiday season, the sales for the two new iPhones are to bring in a large income for Apple.
Apple has released a phone that is bigger and better in every way. Increased power efficiency, new Retina HD display, and an amazing camera are just a few of the many features that iPhone 6 has, and are features that are not worth missing out on.
