The Pitman High School Madrigals is the advanced vocal ensemble which sings a variety of choral music in multiple genres and languages. In this class Mr. Partan, the instructor, focuses heavily on sight-reading ability, vocal technique, and performance skills. Every student in Madrigals is required to pass the audition process before enrolling in the class.

Last year, the Madrigals was awarded the “Superior” rating from the California Music Educators Association, and “Silver” rating from the Forum Music Festival. Their concert venues vary from our own black box theatre to local churches and concert halls, such as Gallo Center for the Arts. The Madrigals also has been invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall for the season of 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Each member of the Madrigals has a unique and beautiful voice, which blends in beautifully with the other students in the ensemble. However, what makes the madrigals really special is how they project their voices with intense emotion when performing on stage.

“It really makes you feel some type of way!”  A current sophomore at Pitman High School and choir student, Nelia exclaimed.

In academia, a Madrigal is defined as any secular vocal music compositions of the Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Pitman High School Madrigals do perform lots of pieces from these eras as well as modern and historic choral music.

In order to be part of the Madrigal Choir class at Pitman High School, students are required to comprehend music notes. Apart from being able to read the music notes , students also have to have skill, and be able to perform in front of an audience. If you are passionate about music and singing this class is definitely for you.

Pitman High School Madrigals is an amazing class for anyone who loves to sing to enroll in! The bond the students in the class have with each other is like a family because they can all relate to their passion for music and singing along with other hobbies.

A majority of the Madrigal performances are held outside of campus to be shared with people from all around our community. The 2017-18 Madrigals choir class would be more than welcoming if you wish to join them at their next concert to see the great progression they have made.
