Pitmans Wrestling team kicked off their season dual meet Wednesday December 6th against the Merced Bears. All the  wrestlers were excited for this meet and so was the Pitman crowd as the bleachers filled up quickly with family and friends waiting to see Pitman take the win.

Pitmans JV team started it off the right way pinning opponents and wrestling at their best ability. The JV squad ended up winning 66-12 defeating Merced and the Varsity team was looking to follow it up.

The Varsity squad started off the meet with Trey Peacock and Austin Levue winning the match by a pin.

One match that everyone was waiting for and was eager to watch was Sophomore Sammy Silvera’s match. The reason for this was Silvera has been separated from wrestling for 4 years due to health problems but at this meet it was the first time he would take his first step back on the mat. Silvera controlled the whole match racking up points with takedown after takedown and a 3 point near fall all in the first round. Then Silvera pinned his opponent. This was big for him and the team to be assured that we have that great athlete we knew we would.

The Pride went on with more wins and more pins. Another standout athlete, (Senior) Fresno State Commit, Isaiah Perez was the last to wrestle before the night ended.  He had a very successful match, pinning his opponent. This resulted with Pitmans Varsity team taking the win defeating Merced 68-6 in the first dual meet of the year.

This victory was important for The Pride as anyone could tell through the athletes. The team looks to continue with this momentum throughout the rest of the season and to achieve their season goals of sending as many wrestlers to The State Championship as possible.
