Going viral extremely fast, The Boring Companies flamethrower took the internet by storm. Boring company, with the CEO being Elon Musk, is a privately-owned company that creates tunnels underground to create roads that will in effect alleviate the traffic congestion in very urban and oddly enough, they decided to release a flamethrower for the sale price of 500 dollars.

While this may seem strange as a flamethrower was a widely used weapon in multiple military affairs spanning from WW1 to the Vietnam War and even used by some middle eastern countries today, the flamethrower is perfectly legal in the United states with only a few regulations, more specifically in California.

The flamethrower was starting to be advertised in early January and started being put up for pre order on the boring company website on the 26th. After people’s concerns about the weapon Elon put up a Boring Company fire extinguisher on the website for a extreme price of thirty dollars. The extinguisher had the short description that read “Buy an overpriced Boring Company fire extinguisher! You can definitely buy one for less elsewhere, but this one comes with a cool sticker.”

The flamethrower has had some problems with shipping because of a few customs agencies. Elon tweeted “Apparently, some custom agencies are saying they won’t allow shipment of anything called a “Flamethrower”. To solve this, we are renaming it “Not a Flamethrower”. In another tweet, after the name change, he said “Customs problem solved!”

Now after the 20,000 units of flamethrowers have been sold with a total amount of money gained being 10 million dollars, people are posting it on ecommerce sites with prices ranging from 1000 to 2000 dollars. But as well as people trying to sell their flamethrowers there are others  coming up with thrifty ways to have one of their own. Youtuber that goes by, “So I Had This Idea…”, made his very own flamethrower for a lower price that was around 230 dollars.

So if you want to put your creativity to the test  and make your own flamethrower for a lower price than The Boring Company, you can do that, or you can dish out up to 2000 dollars for the real one made by them. No matter how you get a flamethrower  it’s still pretty cool to have a one to call your own.
