As you may have noticed, Snapchat recently updated to the newest format; many avid Snapchat users have been unsatisfied with this update. Word has gone around and users are not pleased, as usually expected when Snapchat updates. So you may ask, well what the new things that have been added or taken out? Well, instead of having a section for your friends snap stories, you swipe left. Snapchatters were particularly aggrieved by a change which required them to swipe right to see friends’ stories and snaps, instead of having to swipe left. Apparently, about one million users have already begun to sign a petition which states that they wish for the old snapchat back.

However, this new Snapchat update is here to stay for good. The creators have not stated any reversal or plans to bring back the old version despite all of their bad ratings. If you search the internet for Snapchat’s ratings, they have dropped significantly. This app used to be the most used app to communicate with friends and share ideas and plans with friends, family, and connect with celebrities. Now, the ratings gradually plummet as users are not okay with this update.

We decided to ask some Pitman High students who use snapchat almost every day was as a way of communicating with friends. Pitman senior Clarissa Gutierrez, an avid snapchat user said, “my snapchat updated automatically even though I didn’t want it to update.”

We also asked Claudia Mendoza told us that she “personally does not like this update as I find it difficult to find somebody’s story.”

Despite all these negative comments towards the Snapchat update, the app is still is a great and effective usage of communicating with friends and family. The app opens a portal for universal communication, daily news, and opening the minds of users who explore stories from everywhere around the world! We asked Claudia if she would still use snapchat even if she did not like this update and she replied with, “ I will still use Snapchat, however less frequently as I don’t really enjoy the new features and find it more complicated and difficult.”
