As of right now the school year of 2022-2023 is planned to have a longer Christmas break. The current Christmas break is approximately two weeks long but this change would add an additional week and make it three weeks long. This plan is set to be in place in 2022-2023 and not in 2021-2022 because next school year was already outlined and made final before the TUSD School Board decided on a longer Christmas break and the Turlock Teachers Association (teachers’ union) approved it just two weeks ago.
Personally, I will already be in college when this plan is put in place so it does not directly affect me. However, it does affect me indirectly. My younger brother will be a senior that year so he will have a longer break which will create a longer timeframe that my family can go on vacation. This new plan of a longer Christmas break has upsides and downsides. It will give students longer to rest and recharge from school and for families to go on longer vacations without being rushed but on the other hand, for families that work full time or don’t have enough vacation days/choose not to go on vacation might have a problem finding child care for younger or irresponsible children.
“I will be a senior. A longer Christmas break sounds great! Having more time to spend with family and relax is definitely something to look forward to and an extra week would be amazing! I think this is a good idea because it helps students have a longer time away from school which is always appreciated” – Maya R.
“I will be a senior. I like the idea of having a longer Christmas break. It gives you more time to spend with family.” – Mary B.
“I will be a senior that year. I think it will be a good thing because it will mean that we will have a longer break from school to go on vacation and it will be easier to line up plans for when my sister is home from college.” – Dom H.
This longer Christmas break that is scheduled for the school year of 2022-2023 will come with ups and downs for each family, but hopefully it has a more positive effect on students and teachers that will have the three week break.
