Branching out of Key Club, Friends in a United Neigborhood (F.U.N.), a youth organization headed by junior Caroline Ayala, met at Donnelly Park on Saturday, October 13th. F.U.N. went out and about with around ten volunteers from Pitman High school to play with kids. The team, including Caroline, had fun and played hard for three hours.
“It was fun but tiring. These kids have so much energy,” says Kennia Franco, freshman at Pitman High school from games like quidditch to kickball and baseball to soccer. There is one game, though, that the kids loved the most. It’s a fun yet safe game of archery. Kids got smalls bows with arrows that had suction cups and a whiteboard with a red target on it. The kids had so much fun playing this game. A break was given not only to the volunteers but the kids. As the volunteers took bathroom breaks, drank water and ate chips, the kids had time to cool down and have some down time.
The quidditch game was based on the movie and book, Harry Potter. Noodles took place as broomsticks. Many of the volunteers enjoyed playing soccer. Personally, as a volunteer, I enjoyed all the games and most of all, the happiness of the children and the experience of helping. Kids of all ages, from toddlers to twelve-year olds, had fun interacting and playing with the volunteers and all the other kids. F.U.N is a safe and fun organization made for kids. In my own opinion, this day was fun and a major success.
