The crowd roars throughout the entire stadium as the football players storm the field. It’s that time of year again. It’s time for the National Football League Playoffs. Every team has worked exceptionally hard but only 2 remain: the offensive powerhouse of the New England Patriots and the defensive threat of the Seattle Seahawks. These two monsters of the National Football League are set to battle it out to see who the best team in the NFL is and win that ever-elusive Lombardi trophy.
The prior week of the playoffs was stellar to say the least. The Seahawks advance on an overtime touchdown pass from Russell Wilson while the Patriots advanced because of their absolute desolation of the Indianapolis Colts.
The Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks game left everybody with their hands on their heads wondering how the Packers let this game slip through their fingers. The first half was easily won by Green Bay and it was apparent that they were going to win. They were up by 16 going into half time with all the momentum in the world while the Seahawks were completely deflated after being shut out on offense and picked apart on defense with arguably their best player, Richard Sherman getting hurt. Heck, Seattle’s first score was from their punter so you know that they were desperately looking for a way to get back in this game, even if it means some trick plays. Out of options and seemingly out of time they mounted a great comeback leaving Packers fans in tears. Seattle eventually battled into overtime and managed to steal a victory right from under the Packer’s noses with a 24 yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson who was in tears of joy after the close win. It was not the prettiest win for the Seahawks but a win none-the-less. When asked about his injury, the Richard Sherman responded with, “I will definitely play next game. Even if I have to play through pain just like this game. I will play.” If Seattle plans to beat New England, then they are going to have to play a lot better than they did this week or they will be in the same situation as the Colts were last week against New England.
On the AFC side of the league the game was nothing but pitiful. The Patriots handled the Colts with ease with a 45-7 win at their home field. From their first possession the Colts looked sloppy and the Patriots looked dominant to say the least. Tom Brady and the New England offense went through this team like they were a practice squad and completely embarrassed them. The Colts could not do anything offensively or defensively against this New England powerhouse. The Patriots have momentum and a bunch of confidence going into Super Bowl 49 and they hope to do to Seattle as they did to Indianapolis.
If both teams play as they did this last week then there is no doubt that the Lombardi trophy is going back to New England. The Seahawks need to settle down and play like they did in the regular season, with their dominant defense and scrappy offense. If they do that then this game will be one for the ages. One of the best offenses in the game, the New England Patriots, are set to square off against one of the most aggressive defenses around, the Seattle Seahawks. I know I am not going to miss this game and I recommend you not too either!
