Choir is all about the love of singing and performing, yet choir is also a place where students get to make new friends. At the beginning of the school year, Miss Harrell, the new choir director, organized the first Choir Pow-Wow at Pitman, which was held on Saturday, September 25. There was an amazing turn-out as the majority of the choir students attended. The choir played games and ate snacks while at the Pow-Wow. Some of the activities involved included relay games with a wet sponge, and students telling each other something nice about them. One of the funniest things that happened occurred when the students dumped a bucket of water on the teacher as well as one of the other students. Everyone had a great time with their new teacher and got to know each other. Everybody was so excited that morning and as the morning passed by, no one wanted to leave.
The Madrigals and Concert Choir, together, will be holding six performances this year. The performance dates are October (date to be announced later), December 1, February 28, May 11, and last but not least, May 24. The Pitman choir has been preparing for their first concert since day one of the school year. The students have been learning how to breathe, sit, and stand properly for their first concert so they will look professional. Members are also learning how to sight read, and of course, memorizing the lyrics and songs that they will be singing for their first performance. Songs that the choir will be performing for their October performance include The Rose and The First Day of Choir. When the first performance rolls around, I can guarantee that the choir will be ready. Hopefully, you will be able to attend one of the choir’s performances and cheer them on.
