Pitman Paintball Club had their first ever paintball event last Saturday. After meeting here at 11:00 on Saturday twelve students, two parents and Mr. Montgomery (club supervisor) carpooled to Extreme Paintball in Modesto. The game cost $25 and is all inclusive unless you have your own gear, in which case you only have to pay $10. The team used over 6,000 paintballs during the event.
Caelen Fox, a member of Paintball Club, commented that his favorite part of playing paintball is shooting people; he has been playing for two years and likes the organization of the group and the bond all the members have together. Although they have only had one event so far they plan on having one every six weeks. Mr. Montgomery also commented saying that a game against Turlock High’s paintball club isn’t out of the question.
The game of paintball is a mixture of capture the flag and tag. While trying to get the other teams flag you have to avoid getting hit with a paintball. If you are hit you are out until the next game. The gear you are required to wear when playing a game of paintball includes tennis shoes and a face mask. When you aren’t on the enclosed playing field you also have to have a casing over your gun.
“They are very big on safety,” said Mr. Montgomery. There is not a set uniform for paintball, some people wear street clothes, some wear camouflage and others wear clothes specially designed for paintball that include extra padding. If you want to play paintball yourself there are many places you can attend in the Turlock area, including The Paintball Zone in Waterford and Modesto, 141 Paintball in Livingston, Ink City in Stockton and Capital Edge Paintball in Sacramento.
Paintball Club is still accepting people into their club; if you have any questions you can visit Mr. Montgomery in room H116.
