The 2011 remake of the childhood story, Red Riding Hood, isn’t your normal cookie cutter story. This horror, romance movie is about a village that lives deep in the woods and how a young lady in the village is torn between two men. Amanda Seyfried plays the young woman, Valerie, and the two men are played by Shiloh Fernandez as Peter and Max Irons as Henry. Valerie is in love with Peter but she is arranged to marry Henry. Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together, but their plans are stopped when her sister is killed by a werewolf that the village made a truce with years ago.
The werewolf was a creature that lived in the forest, or so the villagers thought, that didn’t kill people if given a monthly animal sacrifice. But since the truce was broken, the villagers call upon a famous werewolf hunter, Father Solomon, to help kill the beast. He warns the villages that the wolf takes human form by day and wolf form by night. So Father Solomon and his team ransack the whole village, determined to find out who the werewolf is and kill whoever it is.
The movie will have you guessing the entire time on the identity of the wolf. The situations in the scenes make you believe Valerie’s grandmother is the wolf but there is a surprise twist in the end.
