As you may have heard from various announcements, the Pitman’s Marching Pride is going toWashington,DC. And they aren’t going as tourists, but they will march in the Fourth of July Parade. Being invited to march in the parade by the governor is a huge honor for the whole band. We were one of only ten schools invited in the state, and the only school invited from the Central Valley.
Traveling isn’t cheap, and just because the governor invited us doesn’t mean he is paying. And with one hundred and forty kids going, a lot of money needs to be raised to cover the costs of the band’s members. As a result, the band is in overdrive—fundraising with as much energy as they do to practice. As a whole, the band is raising more than twice they do for a normal year’s expenses in the same amount of time. They are fundraising left and right, selling everything from pop-tarts to Cool Hand Luke’s dinner tickets. So if you see someone walking around with a white box, help them out and buy a snack for a dollar! This is a once in a life time opportunity and the band doesn’t want to miss it.
