The Woman in Black is about a young lawyer named Arthur Kipps, played by Daniel Radcliffe, who lives with his son and his son’s nanny. He visits a remote town to handle the estate of a lady named Alice Drablow, who lived with her apparent son named Nathaniel. He soon learns that the town has had several child deaths in the past and learns that Alice’s son was actually her sister’s, Jennet Humfrye’s, son. It was said that Jennet was too mentally unstable to raise her child on her own, so her sister took custody of her son Nathaniel. The house that Alice Drablow owned was named the Eel Marsh House. Soon Kipps finds out that Nathaniel and Alice were in an accident and Nathaniel drowned, and Jennet had hung herself. Kipps experiences many paranormal things while staying at the Eel Marsh House.
While sitting at the movie theatres waiting for the movie to start, I was debating with myself on if I was going to watch another Harry Potter movie, since Daniel Radcliffe was starring in it, or if I was just watching another typical horror film. In the end, I decided I was watching another great movie starring Radcliffe, and that it was great because I’ve never seen Radcliffe in a movie except in the Harry Potter movies.
I was very excited for this movie just because it seemed like it had a lot of mystery in it from what I had seen in the commercials. Unlike other horror movies where you already know half of the storyline from watching the commercials, the commercial for this movie gave enough detail to make me want to watch it, but not enough that I know half of it before I watched it. I thought this movie was great and very suspenseful all throughout the whole time it showed. Not one time did I sit there, bored and wanting to leave.
If you love scary pop-ups in horror films, then you’ll love this movie! There is a ton of scary pop-ups all throughout this movie that will scare you enough so you can’t sleep for at least a couple of nights. Although I’m not a fan of them, I made an exception for this movie and I do not regret it because that’s what made the movie so good. I’d really recommend this horror film for mostly teenagers and adults who just want a scare and are a fan of horror films.
The only weakness was that I thought was that the story ended too fast and it could’ve been a little longer. I would suggest you go see this interesting film and see for yourself. Overall, if I were to give this movie a grade, I’d give it a solid A. I hope there are more movies like this to come.
