In one way or another, everyone can relate to not being able to buy something because it’s way too expensive. Yet, with the right materials, a few crafty alternatives can save a lot of money. Today’s focus: shoes.
Glitter coated shoes are a presently a big trend. But the price tag is even bigger; some glitter shoes can go for a ridiculous $400! There is, however, a simple, yet effective process to achieve the same look—for the amazing price of $20! The secret? Mod Podge!
What you need:
– A single pair of clean shoes (old or new)
– Masking tape
– Mod Podge (a versatile all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish available at any arts and craft store)
– Medium-sized paint brush
– Glitter of preference
– Rhinestones (small)
Directions:
– Cover the rubber outlining of the shoe securely with masking tape, including the upper toe.
– Mix the Mod Podge and glitter together in a small bowl.
– Apply the mixture with the paint brush and ensure the mixture is evenly distributed with 3-5 coats. Don’t forget the upper tongue of the shoe!
– Allow for the shoes to dry for at 2-3 hours
– Remove the tape and create a unique design with the rhinestones
A lot of things can be made out of recycled materials. If you need something to hold your makeup brushes in, put some coffee beans in a bowl and stick them in it. A heat resistant flat iron or curling iron holder can be made out of oven mitts. Spray-painted wine bottles may be used as decorative flower vases. Old, big, sweatshirts can be made into new ones by cutting a little and sewing on some buttons. There are so many things that you can do to make your life easier by not having to worry about cost. So take the initiative and try it!
