Halloween day at Pitman High School was piled high with creative, creepy, and humorous costumes. A walk down the hallway of the B building revealed students dressed as Minnie Mouse, an Angry Bird, a giant banana, a hotdog, and even a flamingo. Some students got dressed up just for themselves and their friends, but others had already been planning on entering Pitman’s Halloween costume contest.
The contest was held during the lunch period in the amphitheater, but before it began, there was a special contest for a few of Pitman’s teachers and their 3rd period classes. Each of the participating teachers were dressed up by their students, and then judged by the school’s counselors, Mr. Phil Sanchez, Mrs. Jennifer Cornell, Mrs. Kristie Frank, and Mr. Dave Bailey.
Of the 9 teachers that joined in on the fun, two of them were crowned the winners. Those two were English teacher, Mrs. Brooke Bettencourt (a “butterfly emerging from its cocoon”) and the principle’s administrative assistant, Mrs. Anna Campodonico.
The other participants included Mr. Modesto’s student teacher, Mr. Anthony Campolo (he was a very creative version of the Wicked Witch of the West), English teacher, Ms. Monica Cooke (a frightening Frankenstein), and the drama teacher, Mrs. Julie McBay (who was, fittingly, the White Queen).
After the teacher contest, Pitman High’s Dance Club showcased their incredibly talented members. The club danced to Robin Thicke’s “Give It 2 U”.
Following the performance was what everyone had been anticipating: the costume contest. Many students entered in hopes to win glory, bragging rights, and a Target gift card. Out of all the participants, 3 of them stood out to the judges as either Most Frightening, Most Creative, or Best Overall.
The title of Most Frightening was given to 11th grader, Brett Nicolas, who was an extremely convincing Edward Scissorhands. The runner up was Jasmine Bustillo, a senior, as Sugar Skull.
Most Creative was awarded to a student dressed as ‘Liar Liar Pants on Fire’. The runner up for this category was a 12th grade couple, Justin Van Fleet and Sydney Hubble as Forrest and Jenny from the classic movie, Forrest Gump.
Last but not least, Best Overall was taken away by Jenner Berryhill, Janson Berryhill, Alex Staat, and Zach Hamilton. Together, these 4 students made up The Red Machine.
Students and teachers all pulled on their costumes to celebrate Halloween at PitmanHigh School, making October 31st a memorable day for everybody in attendance.
