Pitman has just recently started doing daily video announcements, it is a great way to stay connected to their school and the activities going on at it. It is also a great way to inform students and keep them connected not only to life at Pitman, but also to the outside world.
Simarjit Kaur, a junior at Pitman stated, “When we did not have the announcements I would miss many club meetings because I was not informed of when they were. Having the video announcements keeps me informed about the club meetings and also about the many other events taking place.”
Although the announcements were communicated over the intercom, a majority of students would ignore them and try to catch up with missing homework or talk to their peers around them. Watching the daily videos keeps the students entertained with the clever ways the students present the information of the events. Many high school students would prefer to watch a visual rather than listen to the never ending information.
Paloma Eivazian, a junior at Pitman stated, “When the information was communicated through the intercom I seemed to never pay attention, but now that I get to watch it, it sticks in my mind and I remember all the events taking place at Pitman.”
Many teachers would argue that this distracts from their teaching time, but it is a great way to keep students involved. Even with the former way of communicating information through the intercom time was still loss. In fact it is better that it is near the end of class so teachers have a chance to start right when class begins instead of waiting for the intercom announcements to end. Students are better engaged near the beginning of class. Having the announcements take place in the beginning would distract them from the rest of the class period. If teachers truly think about it video announcements, it benefits them. It gives them a chance to catch up with some work and pass back specific items to the students.
Overall, the announcements are a great way to keep students informed of the events taking place and it gives them a break from the loads of work from inside and outside of the classroom.
Sarah Ontiveros, a junior stated, “Throughout the first three periods, the daily announcements are something I look forward to.”
