Anyone who has seen A&E’s reality show, Duck Dynasty, knows that the Robertson family is very religious. Phil Robertson, best known as the fatherly figure on the show, has used his fame to express his religious views all over the country,
However, Robertson is in some hot water after relating a fictitious story about an atheist family getting tortured, raped and brutally murdered during a prayer breakfast back on March 20th, 2015.
Robertson concluded his statement by saying.“Wouldn’t it be something if this was something wrong with this? But you’re the one who says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.” The entire transcript of the story can be found on Right Wing Watch.
Apparently his goal was to prove that since atheists don’t believe in a God, they have no way of differentiating between right and wrong.
Terry Firma, an atheist blogger on Patheos.com, had this to say about Robertson’s offensive comments, “I don’t know a single atheist or agnostic who thinks that terrorizing, raping, torturing, mutilating, and killing people is remotely OK, and I frankly think that Robertson doesn’t either.”
This isn’t the first time Robertson’s religious views have gotten himself in trouble with the media. Back in December of 2013, Robertson made comments saying that homosexuality is a sin like beastiality. After much backlash from members of the LGBT community A&E decided to suspend him from the show only to have him return less than a month later.
As of today, Robertson has faced no consequences for his actions and from the looks of it, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that there will be any at all.
