As the last quarter of the school year approaches, seniors begin to lose focus. After four long years of instruction and countless hours of studying, many seniors want to check out the last quarter of the year. The end of senior year can be the most memorable part of a student’s high school career or the worst; it all depends on how they choose to make it. With such a bright future ahead it is easy to lose focus but keep in mind that the college acceptances are conditional and the bright future ahead can turn into a nightmare because of one silly mistake. Consider some helpful tips from this article and before students know it, they will be walking off of PitmanHigh School as alumni.
With so many upcoming events it is easy to go off task in class, but keep in mind, the faster the work is completed the more time students have for other important classes. Being an efficient student will not only help seniors in their final year, but also in their future. If students finish the work assigned in the class, they have time to do other assignments. Many students tend to slack on homework because they don’t have time at home, but if they finish a majority of the work in class, instead of talking they will have less to do at home, providing them with more time to work ahead or plan for other things.
Simarjit Kaur, a senior at PitmanHigh School stated, “I work hard to complete my assignments in class because it gives me more time to focus on the concepts I am struggling with and it allows me some extra time to do some research on the college I will be attending and the major I will be pursuing.”
Before entering each class students should set a goal that they can achieve before leaving the class. Many seniors have said this philosophy helps them stay on task and complete the day faster. During the class, students are so determined on finishing the goal that they set that they do not realize how fast the period has gone by and how productively they worked.
If students feel they’re struggling in a class it is best to take some time before or after class to talk to their teachers. Students should not let their grades drop because that will hurt them in the end. If they have worked hard all year to stay within the A or B range they should not allow one class and the laziness of senior year drop their GPA. Teachers were all seniors at one point and they will understand what the students are going through and offer the best advice possible, but it is the student’s job to go confront them.
Ruby Pulido, a senior at PitmanHigh School stated, “I was struggling in AP Economics and my grade dropped significantly in the third quarter, but with some help from my teacher and a little extra studying I managed to raise my grade. The end of senior year was not going to stop me from striving to do my best.”
Many colleges will look at the students GPA for senior year and compare it to their previous years, if they see a significant drop they can take the acceptance back and give it to someone who had been waitlisted but maintained to keep their GPA up during senior year. Seniors, keep your grades up because someone can take the spot that you have worked for so diligently over the past couple of years.
Rubani Virk, alumni of PitmanHigh School stated, “There are many people competing for spots so make sure to keep those grades up and not let one quarter ruin all your hard work.”
Keeping focus can be tough during the final stretch of senior year, but the hard work and dedication will give students and their family so much to be proud of. Keep up the grades and maintain a positive attitude and within no time seniors will have completed one chapter of their life, and be on to the next.
