Water On Mars

Water+On+Mars

The idea of whether life exists on other planets rather than on Earth is a thought that no one knows how to respond to. Scientists have found enough compelling information to support that thought with a possible answer. Many people are flabbergasted by the news that a scientist working for NASA finalized the possibility of Mars containing some kind of life.

On December 27, 1984, a meteorite, called ALH84001, was discovered in Allan Hills, Antarctica, by meteorite hunters. This small rock appeared to have separated from Mars’s surface then traveled through space for fifteen million years until plummeting down to Earth.

ALH84001, held by the scientist David Mckay, investigated the rock and found out it contained various minerals, bits of fossils, and evidence of complex chemicals which are created by living organisms, only to be found on Earth.

Recently, on September 28, 2015, NASA’s scientists confirmed traces of liquid water on Mars.

Although finding liquid water is not key to discovering life on Mars, hopefully it raises the chances of proving how living things may have used that liquid to survive in the past.

In the article, ”Liquid water exists on Mars boosting hopes for life there, NASA says,” by Michael Pearson, John Grunsfeld adds into the article reporting how water increases the chance of life on Mars,

”The existence of liquid water, even if it is super salty, gives the possibility that if there is life on Mars, that we have a way to describe how it might survive.”

These examples such as the meteorite and the finding of liquid water are causing many people to believe the possibilities of life on that cold and icy planet to increase mildly.

Although none of the evidence shows aliens as we expect them to look like, this finding is enough proof for NASA’s scientists’ to keep searching for more possible indications of life.

In the article “Life on Mars?” by Carl Zimmer, the New York Times explains their idea of how the;”meteorite holds evidence of life on another world.” Seventy-five percent of scientists believe life had once existed on Mars. Twenty-five percent conclude that Mars still holds life until this day.

By the year of 2020, the government is planning to send astronauts to Mars in search for more evidence. For now, scientists will continue to send satellites to Mars searching for leads towards conclusive information about whether life does exist on Mars. As Mrs. Runyan, a biology teacher from Pitman High describes how, “Anything is possible.”

The article “Are we Alone in the Universe” states how,” our galaxy is filled with galaxies. Even if we find no convincing evidence of life on Mars, there are seemingly infinite numbers of places to look for other living beings.”

Does life exist beyond Earth? Until this day, that is a question that no one can answer with a positive statement.
