Nearly 15 years ago, The Princess Diaries hit theatres and the public loved it. Opening weekend racked up almost twenty three million dollars, according to imbd.com. Director Gary Marshall then went on to produce The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement two years later. Fast forward to March 14th, 2016 and he and leading actress Anne Hathaway have confirmed The Princess Diaries 3 in an interview with People magazine.

The Princess Diaries was originally a movie sequel to the books, written by Meg Cabot. In the series, there are many stories about Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) and her average high school life, until she finds out that she is royalty. Her world then gets flipped upside down as she heads to Genovia to take princess lessons from her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Julie Andrews).

Although the first movie followed the book’s storyline relevantly close, the second film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement went out of her high school life and into the real world, as she learns that she has thirty days to get married if she wants to become queen of Genovia.

The Princess Diaries will be starring the princess herself, Anne Hathaway, as Mia Thermopolis. Director Gary Marshall commented on whether or not Chris Pine, Mia’s love interest in the second Princess Diaries, will return saying, “Maybe, he’s quite big now.”

Mia’s best friend, Lilly, who was portrayed by Heather Matarazzo in the first Princess Diaries film also responded to a fan on social media when asked if she was going to return and tweeted that she would love to return for a follow up.

During a Tumblr Q and A, some fans asked Pine, “Don’t you pray every night for a Princess Diaries 3??” Pine’s response was, “Have you been reading my diary???”

The Princess Diaries 3 will not be starting anytime soon because Anne Hathaway is currently pregnant with her own little princess.

Many Princess Diaries fans expressed their excitement on social media, commonly using gifs or photos of the young Anne Hathaway.

There may be a long wait until fans everywhere get to see the movie, but it will totally be worth it.
