Cyrano de Bergerac

The Pitman drama department is shaking things up this year, with their first ever thespian show. A thespian is a high title given to dedicated actors who have gone through a thespian initiation. The thespians at pitman were very excited to be apart of this pitman drama first.

The show, chosen by Pitman Senior and director Forest Lark, is Cyrano de Bergerac. The admission fee was only five dollars and the show times were Friday the 29th 3:00 and 6:00.

Pitman drama has yet again out done themselves. Cyrano was the full package filled with wit, humor, romance, and tragedy.
The play consisted of an eloquent, well versed and confident man named Cyrano who’s only insecurity was his abnormally large nose. The love of his life, the gorgeous Roxanne, was engaged to De Guiche. Although De Guiche
was deeply in love with Roxanne, she had her eye on another man named Christian.
Although Christian was blessed with good looks, he was very dim witted.

Cyrano and Christian end up joining forces by using Christian’s good looks and Cyrano’s romantic love letters to make Roxanne fall in love with Christian. This plan worked but shortly after Christian and Roxanne got married, both Cyrano and Christian are needed at war.

Roxanne pays a visit to the soldiers in awe of the beautiful love letters that she believes Christian has sent but in reality Cyrano has written them. Once Roxanne tells Christian that after reading the letters, she would love him even if her were hideous, Christian realizes that Roxanne is actually in love with Cyrano.

Christian ordered Cyrano to tell Roxanne the truth but shortly after Christian dies in combat. In order to save Christian’s legacy Cyrano decides not to tell Roxanne the truth. Many years pass by and the play ends with Roxanne finally realizing the truth and Cyrano dying in her arms as she finds out.
The cast was wonderful and the amount of costume changes the actors had to go through was remarkable.
Cyrano was a great play filled with both laughter and tears. All the thespians took much of their time and effort to create the end product. Pitman Senior Forest Lark, student director, stated,

“Every single rehearsal I felt accomplished. Even now when I am writing this, I struggle to find the correct words to illustrate the love and compassion I shared with these group of individuals. I can safely say that my cast/crew of ‘Cyrano’ has made this the best experience of my Pitman High School drama career, a performance I shall never forget. I found my Pitman Pride.”

Pitman Dramas first ever thespian show was a huge hit! Let’s hope next years is just as good.
