On a pleasant, sunny Saturday, approximately 400 swimmers from all over Stanislaus County competed at Johansen High School in Modesto to be crowned Stanislaus County Swim Champions. Stanislaus County Championships occurred March 28 for the Pitman girls’ swim team, as well as for high school teams from the Central California Conference, Modesto Metropolitan League, and schools such as Ceres High School and Patterson High School. Each school had a limit of four entries per event (there were eleven events) in which the swimmers competed for points (first through sixteenth received points). Pitman women received fourth overall, while Modesto High placed first, Merced placed second, and Johansen placed third. Many individual Pitman competitors placed in the top sixteen. Senior swimmer, Katie Staack was pleased with the overall outcome, commenting, “We did really well for a team that lost fourteen seniors and had three divers and two main swimmers out sick for this swim meet.” Although Pitman girls’ swim team did not place in the top three, they did considerably well given the team absences.
