Summer Activities

Summer Activities

Summer break is right around the corner, with the last day of school being on May 31st. There is approximately a month left of school! This can be very exciting for some people. However others may find summer boring, they don’t get to see their friends everyday and might have no idea what to do over break. For those people, continue reading to find out what activities you can do to have an exciting summer.

Some people might not enjoy summer because they can’t enjoy the weather, however there are plenty of things to do to avoid the heat. For instance swimming, swimming is a fun activity you can do with friends or family that allows you to escape the hot weather while still being able to enjoy the sun. Although not everyone has a pool there are other ways to go swimming, not far from town. There are public pools all over in places near Turlock, the Pitman pool is also occasionally open to the public.

For those who are looking to leave Turlock and enjoy the weather, nearby there are places like Monterey, Santa Cruz, Capitola etc. Monterey offers many tourist attractions. You can visit the beach, walk around small shops or even go to the aquarium. The same goes for Santa Cruz, if you are looking for a more exhilarating tourist attraction you can go to the boardwalk and go on rides and play fun games with friends or family. An example of somewhere you can visit in Capitola is Pizza My Heart, it is a popular pizza restaurant that many enjoy going to. There are also plenty of shops and beaches to visit as well.

Around mid July the Stanislaus County Fair opens to the public. Plenty of people go there to show their animals. Others go to the fair to enjoy the good food, concerts or rides. A sophomore here at Pitman, Hannah Laforti,  shows cows at the Stan Co Fair here are some of her favorite things about doing so.

“My favorite part about the show is hanging out with friends, teaching the public about my animals and participating in everything the fair has to offer. It’s always a fun time!”

Another popular town attraction that is only around in the summer is Heaven Snow. Heaven Snow is a popular place to go enjoy a snow cone on a hot day. It is a popular place to take your friends because there are plenty of games out to play and music to enjoy.

If you enjoy listening to country music there are plenty of country concerts at the Fruit Yard not far from town. To find who is playing and where to buy tickets you can look up “The Fruit Yard Events.”  There are cheaper lawn seat tickets or more expensive tickets for a closer up experience with the singers.

For more ideas of how to spend your summer break students around campus were asked what they do as entertainment. Presley Hernandez said,

“I spend most of my summer preparing for my summer dance show. This year’s theme is “Rock the ages.”

The location of the show is at the State Theatre in Downtown Modesto. Tickets can be purchased on the Modesto State Theater website. This is another great way to enjoy your break while staying out of the heat.

These were just some of the exciting ways you spend your break. Summer break is a great time to take advantage of the warm weather and use it to spend time with the people most important to you like your friends and family. Summer break is a time to do all the activities that you might not have time to do during the school year!
