The old sayings “more money, more problems” and “money can’t buy happiness” have proven to be true through a series of strange and fatal happenings in Florida. A Florida gentleman was found dead three short years after he struck it big by winning $30 million dollars from the lottery. When Abraham Shakespeare won the $30 million dollars he was ecstatic and he promised that the money would never change who he was. Unfortunately, money doesn’t bring long-lasting joy and it does bring change to a simple person, even Benjamin Franklin could agree. Benjamin once said, “Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one.”
Shakespeare’s corpse was found under a 30-by-30 slab of concrete behind the house of his close friend Dorice Moore, who is called a “con-artist” by police officers. Dorice Moore has now been labeled as an accessory to the murder of Abraham Shakespeare and she has claimed to have not been involved in the death of Shakespeare. Surprisingly, no one else has been arrested in this twisted case of a great win and an even greater loss.
Since its creation, money has always created controversy, trouble, and messy situations because of selfish, human desires. When money is awarded in large amounts, individuals often are unsure of how to handle their cash; they are most likely to spend it carelessly or to give money away. In a short amount of time, their large amount of green will quickly dwindle to a couple of bucks, due to poor investments or reckless spending. According to Don Mcnay, a financial adviser, nine out of ten people do not know how to handle large amounts of money and it is especially a worse situation when the possessor of the money has an addiction. Their fortune will magnify their addiction and bring forth more problems and anxiety.
Shakespeare lead a criminal lifestyle in his younger years; at the young age of thirteen he was arrested for robbing a store and by eighteen he was freed from juvenile reform school. Araham was arrested multiple times in the expanse of ten years and he eventually landed himself in prison after he assaulted his lover. After his release from prison in 1955, abusive Abraham picked up a variety of jobs from dishwashing to garbage collection and he was never satisfied with his work so he simply stopped working. Soon after this, Shakespeare was sent to prison once more for being behind in his son’s child support, after his second release he began working as a truck driver.
One afternoon, on one of Shakespeare’s stops, he gave his friend two dollars to buy him two quick picks from a gas station. Those two quick picks would forever change his life; but only for the worst. Oblivious to the value and handling of money, Abraham began giving away cash! Just to name a few occurrences, Shakespeare gave two women $250,000 each and he gave $1 million dollars to his stepfather, his spending took a domino effect and his once $30 million figure began to look meek. His bleach blonde friend, Dorice Moore the suspected murderer, at the time of Shakespeare’s wealth, was put in charge of the cash a lot of the time because Abraham trusted her. With the help of Dorice, Abraham bought a $655,000 dollar home, unfortunately, three months later after the purchase; Abraham was found dead in Dorice’s back yard.
Investigators are still unsure of whom Shakespeare’s slayer is, but the most recent evidence is pointing to Dorice Moore. The inability to control money simply makes individuals do careless and irrational things. Monitoring and spending money wisely is the key to maintaining its longevity and maintaining its value.
