Drama Club
It is a club nobody will ever forget about; it is a club with true devotion and talent; and that club is Drama Club. Drama club at PHS was started by student Alise Maynard (class of 2005) and the 1st teacher in charge of the club was none other than Mr. Avey. Years later, Mrs. Hartley and Mrs. McBay have been in charge of this club and have inspired students to be a part of it! Having many years with this club, the Drama Club has never lost their creativity in designing their club T-shirts. This year, Mrs. McBay and the drama club officers are representing their club by designing green T-shirts saying “Get a cue” on the front and on the back saying “Energy up”; symbolizing what it takes to be in drama. Each year Drama Club comes up with new T-shirts and if you want to be part of the whole drama club experience and are interested in designing a T-shirt don’t forget to sign up next year!
Photography Club
Mr. Rosales is one of the photography teachers here at Pitman High School and is the advisor for both HYLC and Photography Club. Photography Club is also one of the clubs that has existed at PHS since the school opened. Pitman’s photo club has done an outstanding job of portraying their thoughts, emotions, and individual style on photographs, but they are not only doing that on paper or on the computer, they are creating an image on a T-shirt! This year photo club members, Guillermo Mendoza and Adrian Martinez, represented their club in a unique way. Instead of having a tie drawn on the T-shirt, it is a camera, which symbolizes the meaning of photography, the media, and the exploration of art. This T-shirt not only includes a camera but also represents Pitman’s Pride. The neat thing about being the T-shirt designer is that if your design wins you earn a free T-shirt.
HYLC Club
Heard of the Hispanic Youth Leadership council? This club is open to all ethnicities and it is all about having the youth helping their community and developing leadership. HYLC is a great club where the Hispanic youth becomes much more appreciative and is able to learn more about their culture. Another interesting aspect of the club is all the fun they have and working together to create something they all like with their fellow classmates. Exhibit A: T-shirts! An interesting observation I have made regarding HYLC T-shirts is that each year their T-shirts are changed up, however they always include the same logo. This logo is very exclusive; it shows the letters HYLC inside of the sun, which signifies power and triumph in the Hispanic culture. The club always has the logo even though the years pass by and they never forget what they are all about. Just like when people say, “don’t forget about your roots, where you came from, or your culture.”
Paintball Club
Being the newcomers you would think they were the underdogs, but in reality Paintball Club is shooting off to a grand start! This began last year, being an idea of Eric Rezga who then turned out to be the first president of the paintball club. He talked to history teacher, Mr. Montgomery, who later accepted to be the Paintball Club advisor. This is their first year being an official club here at PHS. There are of course many boys in this club, however do not get discouraged girls, you can also join. Who knows, girls might beat the boys in a game of paintball! Vice- President Kristal Ketscher is one of the few girls to enter this extreme club, but she enjoys her time there that she even helped make the T-shirt wearable for both genders. David Yonan, a sophomore here at PHS, designed the first T-shirt for the paintball club. The logo has paintball gear and on the back of the T-shirt it has the words “primo” in Latin, meaning “first to fight”! I see some great and enthusiastic people in this club ready to kick some butt! I hope this club continues to succeed because this is what Pitman High is all about, Pride!
PHAST Club
The Stanislaus County Office of Education designed the PHAST Club T-shirts this year. Anyone who is a part of this club can receive their T-shirts without a cost. This year the shirts are brighter than ever to let the campus know that it is not okay to smoke or chew tobacco. They are planning on making the PHAST Club T’s themselves next year, all about PHAST Club and showing their pride.
FFA Club
The creative designer for all of the FFA T-shirts would be Mr. Gravatt! One of his favorite past times would be creating shirts! Have you seen the one that looks like the John Deere shirt but instead of a deer it is a lion? Well Gravatt did just that! These shirts were especially made for FFA but any member of the PRIDE family can get one! They change every now and then so if you have any ideas don’t forget to mention them to Mr. Gravatt!
Key Club
Key Club has been around Pitman ever since Mrs. Ludwig could remember. Why do they call it Key Club? Key Club stands for Kiwanis; a community service group that the clubs around the world work with. This club is an international club and they wanted to make their club T-shirts original, creative, and of course school appropriate which everyone loves and agrees on! The T-shirt includes school colors, the club’s name, and a unique animal, a kangaroo. The kangaroo symbolizes what the club represents, in this case international.
Asian Club
Jennifer Giang and Sharon Kha gave Pitman a new and improved idea for their Asian club T-shits. I asked Sharon how their idea came together and she responded, “Well, our initial design was much too expensive. So, we decided to create a quick T-shirt that everyone might like.” Despite the issue they had with their original idea, their second creation was such a huge success that they ran out of T-shirts the minute the box opened! Everyone, even the non-Asian Club participants, bought these $15 shirts. Why did so many people buy them? The world may never know. What I can tell you, is what caught people’s attention from the shirt, and that was the writing on the back, which says, “Miso Asian.” This year Asian Club has done a great job in selling their T-shirts that everyone is excited for what they have to bring to the table next year! They are looking forward to creating better and innovating ideas in the future for their Asian Club T-shirts.
