I would define studying as the action of spending countless, frustrating hours reading materials in order to pass an exam. Yes, studying is just a word that scares most, but leads to academic success. Listen up procrastinators, finals are just around the corner, so kiss Facebook.com goodbye during this crucial time.
Exams might not be the most fun thing in the world, but they’ll get you somewhere. Finding a place to study is always important. Factors may vary on what may affect ones study environment. Some may need complete silence in a room, or others need some background music. The best thing to do is avoid distractions such as your phone or computer. A library, your own room, or even your backyard can be places to study. Talk to your classmates and get together after school. It is always helpful to contribute with others’ knowledge. Your classmate might understand a certain section better than you, and can help you understand it as well, or vice versa. This also gives you the helpful opportunity to quiz yourself.
Going over your notes the night before the exam for fifteen minutes won’t get the job done. You need to organize your time in a reasonable manner to prevent stress. Having six exams in three days isn’t the best cup of tea, so adding some sugar can make it better. Work on your hardest material first, leaving the easiest at last. Write down questions as you look over notes or study guide so you can ask your teacher to clarify what you need ahead of time. Avoid studying long hours without a break. Having a couple of brief breaks won’t do any harm. Organize your notes into sections. As you go over the material write down the most important things.
Have everything you need if its notes, a book, or handouts. Reading your book is always helpful, but not everything in there will be needed. Try reading the main sections. If you have terms, note cards are extremely helpful. Yes, it can be a lot of writing but as you write the words and their definitions you go over them as well. Some teachers may allow a note card with formulas or notes. Do not take that for granted, it helps you out a lot. It can get you back on track if you blank out during the test.
As for the night before the test, don’t stress about it. Stay calm and get a good night sleep. Eat a healthy breakfast and review your notes briefly before to refresh your memory. And if your Scantron sheet starts making a pattern, don’t doubt yourself.
