The one thing every high school student wants to do is move out on their own and be free of all the restrictions placed on them by their parents. However, others may say different; they might say that it’s just because they think its time to grow up and stop being dependent on their parents. What they don’t know is all the factors that fall on them and their families.
Being a high school graduate without a lot of job experience will make it extremely difficult to get a job that pays over minimum wage. Breaking down the costs of moving out to general estimates comes to $700.00 for an apartment, $250.00 for car payments and around $300.00 for basic necessities (which include clothing, food, gas, and cell phone payments); this now brings us to a grand total of $1250.00. Working at a minimum pay job, there is little to no way of making these payments without making drastic cuts in living expenses. In my opinion, there is no reason strong enough to discourage a teenager who has dedicated determination with the ability to face and overcome these drawbacks as long as you have a will and you keep your priorities straight.
Some alternatives to cutting your living expenses would be to get a room instead of a whole apartment or not having a cell phone for a short period of time. With a college degree or an AA certificate, the amount of money you make increases dramatically. While working and going to school, you will put yourself on the right track to success and with receiving government support for paying off most of your school expenses, it won’t be hard.
Now, there are also the more fortunate teenagers that have a good amount of financial support from the parents even after they move out. These are the teens that survive leaving the house at the age of eighteen.
Anyhow, this is not so easy on the parents and a recent survey taken shows that about 65 percent of parents would rather have their kids stay home because it has a huge and depressing effect on them as parents. One way that parents cope with the effects of their children moving out, is by getting an animal as a pet to keep them company and lessen the stress.
All in all, it is up to you and anything you want to do in life could be done with the right amount of school and focus. Just remember that no one can make you give up; in the end it is your choice.
