The new installment of the shooter series Halo 4 is set after Halo 3 as Master Chief returns to face an ancient evil which threatens the fate of the universe.
The game developed by 343 Industries will kick off a new trilogy of the series. Rumors have it that it will release on the Christmas of 2012, although it has not been confirmed quite yet. The developers uploaded a behind-the-scenes video for the game, which gives a first look at the Master Chief, an update on the battle rifle and new multiplayer experiences from the game.
The video ends with Master Chief standing at a dark cave entrance and from within, some type of grunting noise can be heard. Cortana, an intelligent character, says “They’re coming back … and there’s a lot more of them this time,” the chief then readies a new weapon that looks like a mixture between a rocket launcher and a Needler. The Needler is a futuristic gun that shoots out plasma beams. It focuses on his helmet and a number of strange digital effects flow across his visor, concluding the video.
Halo 4 was officially announced on June 4, 2011 at E3 2011. Halo 4 is being developed for the Xbox 360 console. The game’s creative team, which includes nearly two hundred people who have been developing the game since at least 2009, is led by director Josh Holmes. The game will continue the Halo series’ tradition of inspiring “wonder in the player” while providing fierce game play. The game will use much of the “sandbox” that has been featured across all six prior Halo games and other media, in addition to introducing new characters, weapons, vehicles, and other elements.
Halo 4 has risen quite a bit of commotion when fans began to question what the game’s features would be. 343 Industries has confirmed that the planet-like structure seen in the Halo 4 trailer is the same as that seen upon completion of Halo 3 on the difficulty when set to legendary. 343 studio head director Frank O’Connor, has only revealed that “It’s safe to say it’s not human,” but the fans can see that for themselves.
Master Chief’s body has changed now, and it’s not just his armor. The Halo 4 trailer showed a Chief with shoulder-pieces that were different from the original Mark VI version and with a missing pelvis-guard piece. O’Connor stated that there are reasons given in the game to why Master Chief looks different as well as a change in his behavior.
The weapons Master Chief uses in the Halo 4 teaser trailer might look like a typical handgun, but it’s actually a weapon we haven’t seen before. Rod-mounted grenades are put into the barrel of the weapon, and must be replaced after each round is fired. Powerful weapons such as this could open up interesting strategic options in both single and multiplayer.
Supposedly Halo 4 will feature story telling and player choice at the main part of the campaign, with players offered an epic experience far beyond anything witnessed before in an FPS-based game. The battlefields will be larger too, with conflicts spanning land, sea and space. An internet rumor also suggests that customization will play a big part in Halo 4. A new system called ‘Arsenal Improvisation Mechanics’ will allow for a creative customization of both weapons and vehicles in order to fit them to your likings.
Halo 4 is soon to come out this year and many people are looking forward to it. Fans everywhere were saying Halo Reach just didn’t suit their likings. With the exception of all these new modes and graphics, hopefully 343 Industries pulls out the victory against its competitors when Halo 4 is released.
