On May 1, during the NBA playoffs, the first trailer for the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 game was released. The trailer started out with the old character, Woods—now at the age of 95—talking about how humans rely on technology too much and how someday machines will be self-aware. A major detail that fans have noticed is that Black Ops 2 did not take place in the twentieth century unlike the original. But very little was revealed by the teaser trailer.
Although there isn’t any information on the official Call of Duty website, there are quite a few videos available that talk about the continuing campaign mode, the intense multiplayer and the return of the award-winning “Zombies” mode. Black Ops 2 will surely capture the attention of casual gamers everywhere.
Treyarch, the developers of the Black Ops series, have worked together to create a game like no other. Previous games in the Call of Duty series have been based in the twentieth century, leading fans to wonder what the new setting will bring. Seeing as technology advanced so quickly, developer Treyarch decided that a more modern setting for the games would be appropriate. In order to do so, the team took machinery from the twenty-first century and computerized it. As the video continues, the subject states, “I have a nightmare scenario where a hacker breaks into our system and controls Satellites, UAVs, and even missiles,” possibly giving the audience some insight into the plot of the new game.
Another video was presented to the audience of millions, featuring the long-awaited story mode. Executive producer Mark Lamia says, “I think it would be pretty surprising to everybody that we are taking COD to the future.”
It has also been said that Black Ops 2 will be based 13 years from now; the year originally designated was 2025. During the interview with Mark, it has also been stated that Treyarch took the setting from the previous Black Ops and add a little “fiction” to it. Their imaginations created exoskeleton robots, thunder guns, and even laser beams shot through vehicles. The campaign trailers show the different vehicles that might be in the near future. Campaign mode will certainly not disappoint the impatient COD fans.
The final video released by Treyarch talked about the popular multiplier and zombie game modes. Mark Lamia stated. “I think people can expect us to push the boundaries on multiplayers pretty hard.” He knows what the fans want and decided to push it to the limit. Multiplayer in all COD games is basically the same deal. There is a set objective and you, along with your teammates, must complete it before the opposing team does so. So, Treyarch decided to bring back the horrifying zombie experience. Every other COD game brought by Infinity Ward, including the Modern Warfare series, focused primarily on the multiplayer, whereas Treyarch’s Black Ops series also focuses on zombies.
The follow up of last year’s COD, Modern Warfare 3, disappointed many, while the new futuristic look of Black Ops 2 left fans overwhelmed. The remarkable campaign mode includes numerous vehicles and extraordinary weapons. When players don’t feel like playing the campaign, they can jump into the close quarter combat in multiplayer or even the chilling Nazi Zombies mode.
November 13, 2012 is the set date for the release of the game, until then, fans have to wait and see what Treyarch has to offer.
