Soccer is a game dictated by passion, the most skilled teams do not always win, rather the underdog teams are often the victors. This was not the case in the match between Pitman High and Turlock High on the 30th of September. This cross-town matchup saw the team with the most skill and the most heart become victorious. Pitman won 2-0.
Goals by (Senior) Adriel Mancilla and (Junior) Brian Perez were enough to see the Pride win the game. The entire Pitman team fought hard in order to capture the win in the first matchup of the year between the two high school teams. While the season is long, Pitman is looking to be a serious title contender, as they sit in first place.
Adriel Mancilla returned from an injury that had kept him out at the beginning of the season. “It felt good to beat those guys” Mancilla confessed. “We are the better team and we proved it in that game” he claimed.
Mancilla’s relief at winning the game expressed the way the team played on that Monday night. Pitman was driven to win by the pressure of proving themselves. In the last season Pitman found themselves beaten by Turlock in two out of the three meetings. Pitman is arguably the favorite to win the league, but they had to beat their cross-town rivals in order to prove that they were capable. Pitman won and won easily, proving that they are ready to win the title.
