When a woman chooses to abort her baby, that woman chooses murder. When a woman chooses to kill her baby, she has chosen a life for herself full of health risks directly related to the abortion that she most likely was unaware of prior to killing her potential child. When a woman chooses to get rid of a baby boy or girl, that woman has chosen her own dreams and ambitions over all of the potential prosperity that the child may have had. Her unborn baby could have grown up to dream and strive for happiness, love others and be loved, fail or succeed, that baby could have lived. How can a woman be allowed to value her own life over the potential life of her child? If the right to choose is so important, then what about the choice of the baby? What baby would choose to be killed?
Marla Cardamone was pregnant at the age of 18. She was perfectly content to bring her baby into the world; she was ready to be a mother. Cardamone’s future with her child changed abruptly when she trusted her doctor’s advice. Cardamone’s doctor convinced her to get an abortion by employing false information – meaning that Marla Cardamone was the victim of lies. The young lady was falsely told by her doctor that the prescription medication she had been using would cause her baby to suffer from severe birth defects. This lie was vital to Cardamone’s decision to abort her baby. The information force fed to Cardamone would prove to be false when the aborted child was found to have no defects. However, the mother would have no chance to grieve for her baby because Cardamone died due to complications from the procedure. Marla Cardamone, along with her baby, was killed by the abortion.
In Marla Cardamone’s case, two lives were destroyed by abortion. Some might say that when a woman gives birth at a young age, her future prosperity is destroyed; however, these people advocating murder often ignore adoption. There are many people who live in stable conditions and wish to raise children, but they cannot have their own babies for various reasons. For these people, adopting the child of a mother who does not want her baby is ideal. When a woman says that she wishes to kill her child because she cannot provide a suitable environment for nurturing and raising a baby, she should look to adoption. There are 950,000 couples who wish to adopt, but cannot due to a shortage of children being put up for adoption (“Adoption”).If women were to put their children up for adoption, instead of aborting their babies, more of these couples would be able to raise a baby. Adoption allows a mother to live free of raising an unwanted baby, and gives the child a chance to live and the opportunity to have a successful life.
When a woman disposes of her child in an abortion, she has made herself susceptible to an array of health risks that she was most likely unaware of. Women experience problems with drug abuse twice as much once they have had an abortion (Pedersen 1974). Along with the increased use of drugs, women who have had an abortion have a 50% risk of having breast cancer by age 45 (“AAPLOG”, 192). Women are often not informed about the serious health risks involved with abortion.
Many women are looked down upon once they have had an abortion and are the subject of personal abuse from varying kinds of people; this is unfair. Hating these women is wrong because they are often pressured by their loved ones into killing their child. Also, many women do not have accurate information as to the scope of what they are undertaking. When a woman learns that she has become pregnant unexpectedly at any age, she is afraid. In this state of worry and fear, these women are succeptable to persuasion. Doctors and family members often choose to torment pregnant women about the ‘perils’ of motherhood instead of being supportive. The responsibility of murdering a child through abortion does not rest solely with the mother; families, boyfriends, and doctors must understand that abortion is not a viable option and they must provide the mother with support and love instead of convincing the mother to murder her child.
It is commonly known that all pregnancies are not the result of consensual sex. This is true, but a pregnancy resulting from rape is extremely rare. Only 0.04% of abortions have been done for rape (Clowes). Those pushing for women to have the right to kill their babies often use pregnancies resulting from rape to paint pro-life advocates as ‘evil’. The fact that some pregnancies are caused by rape is an argument that is used by pro-abortion advocates to justify abortion. The fact that the number of rape caused pregnancies is very low is ignored by these people. 0.04% is a miniscule figure that should not be used to justify the murder of thousands upon thousands of babies.
Abortion is murder. A baby that could have grown into an adult is killed when an abortion takes place. Women are not entirely to blame once they have killed their children; loved ones are often equally responsible for killing the baby if they do not provide the mother with support. There are no excuses for abortion, a life is taken from the world never to be seen again, a human-being, a person, has their right to life stolen.
