Top Ten Christmas Movies

As Buddy the elf once said, “The best way to spread christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” and he’s not wrong. Another great way to get into the spirit is watching Christmas movies. Here are the top ten.

 

  1. Frosty the Snowman. (1969) Young children build a snowman after school one day, and bring it to life with a magical top hat they borrowed from a magician. When the magician, Professor Hinkle, learns of it’s abilities he wants it back, and the temperature begins to rise. The children and frosty need to run away from the heat, or frosty will melt. The children learn about the magic of Christmas and friendship along the way.

 

  1. How the Grinch stole Christmas. (2000) The hateful monster called the grinch plots to rob all of the cheerful citizens of Whoville of their favorite holiday, Christmas. His mischievous actions go according to plan until he comes across innocent Cindy Lou Who, who puts him in his place, and the Grinch learns to love Christmas.

 

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas. (1993) Jack Skellington is the king of Halloweentown, yet he becomes bored with Halloween. He discovers the bright and joyous town of Christmastown, and becomes intrigued. He plans to become King of Christmas down by taking over the role of Santa Claus, but the plan does not end well.

 

  1. Scrooge or A Christmas Carol. (1951) An elderly business man called Ebenezer Scrooge, has no Christmas spirit, and frankly, barely any spirit at all. When he leaves his victorian era business for the night, he is visited by the spirit of his old business partner, warning him he is to be visited by three ghosts that will enlighten him on the wrongs of his stingy, cold-hearted actions.

 

  1. Miracle on 34th Street. (1947) An elderly man, Kris Kringle, fills in for Santa Claus in the Macy’s thanksgiving parade, and he becomes the regular role of Santa Claus in Manhattan. Kringle then claims that he is the real Santa, it takes him to court and people check his mental health and authenticity.

 

  1. Love Actually. (2003) Nine different stories explore life’s greatest emotion, love, especially during Christmas time. Some of the characters experience new, blooming love, and some experience ending love, but one thing can be for sure, love is all around us.

 

  1. Home Alone. (1990) After his family accidentally leaves him at home during their Christmas vacation to Paris, young rascal Kevin McAllister lives in paradise as his wish of having no family has finally come to reality. His paradise fades when he learns two burglars plan to rob the house. since all of the family is on vacation. Kevin must look after the home, and he does this in a rather entertaining manner.
  2. A Christmas Story. (1983) This classic follows the life of young Ralphie parker, as he dodges bullies, and gets himself into frequent arguments with his father. Ralphie often dreams of his biggest Christmas wish, a Red Ryder BB gun, but everyone tells him he’ll shoot his eye out.

 

  1. Elf. (2003) Snatched from the orphanage by the one and only Santa Claus, Buddy was raised by Elves. When the time comes, he learns about his father in New York City, who is a businessman, and also on the naughty list. Buddy leaves the North Pole to New York in search of his father. Buddy and his father start a relationship and Buddy finds a lady elf and spreads Christmas cheer along the way.

 

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life. (1946) George Bailey has spent his entire life giving back to the citizens of Bedford falls, and over the years he had become very successful, with many loved ones. On Christmas eve, George’s uncle misplaced a large 8,000 dollar loan into the evil, greedy, hands of millionaire Mr. Potter. George realizes he will be sent to jail, and begins to believe his family, and all of his loved ones would be better off without him. All of his family is worried for George as he storms out of the house, broken, and secretly suicidal. Lots of people pray for George, and this catches the attention of his Guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence comes down to earth and stops George from his suicide attempt, and shows him what the town of Bedford falls would be like if George had never been born. George realizes that it truly is, A wonderful life.
